Spent 6 hours today getting tattooed with Marcus Kuhn. Half the time was spent dialing in the black work, the other half was spent doing color. He got the lower third of the 3/4 sleeve complete, here's a little taste :D I've got another appt. next friday and the friday after that... hopefully he'll be able to finish it this trip!!!

I haven't heard much about this show except that Oliver is in it, but I would say if they want to make it realistic the first challenge they should do is have a client come in with a horrible idea. The tattooers job will be to talk the client out of it and make them get something better. Extra points if finished tattoo is a eagle, dagger, or jungle cat of some sort.

I'm not sure what people's favourite film of the year was (I imagine for many it is Drive) but for me it has to be the Australian 'based on a true story' feature Snowtown: Snowtown (2011) - IMDb It's gruesome and disturbing, in a way that Australian film is very good at (Ghosts of the Civil Dead, Romper Stomper, The Proposition, Animal Kingdom, The Road etc), but is shot beautifully and has a slow pace that really pulls you in. It will have you researching the real story of the Snowtown murders which is incredibly fucked-up.

Then offer the painting to your kind friends for auction. Highest bidder wins. Problem solved. Then you can paint another for the second-highest bidder. Everybody wins. Maybe art school didn't curse you with a sense of entitlement. If not, you were lucky, It took me years to try and shake it. but TV shows sure made you think that sentiment and romance make sub-standard work justifiable. I'm afraid that once you paint tattoo imagery and show it to professionals you are held to the same standards as professionals. So one of the hardest things about tattooing is learning to take advice without offering excuses and reasons. It's difficult and it hurts but you need to take it on the chin and learn from it. I'm sure any tattooer worth their salt would agree.
