  1. Buddy Brian Grosz is on his fourth or fifth session on his back with Mike Rubendall. Looks like he's been going every two weeks and, even better, he's started a little blog to chronicle the adventure. He also added a little bit on cleaning up/aftercare. Bodysuit To Fit

  2. You don't think it's normal to see fully sleeved/ neck bombed chefs making cupcakes? Giant colorbombs of mixing bowls and whisks and stuff seems to be the norm on those cooking shows. A bit O/T: My Dad was a chemical plant operator for over 25 years-real rough neck shit. He and hardly any of his friends had tattoos and if they did, they were smaller traditional stuff like roses, names, eagles, etc. None of them had giant cooling towers, various chemical compounds, or tools of their trade running up their sleeves. I am who I am, not what I do. I don't need to get tattoos of art supplies to prove I'm an artist. I do something novel, like create art ; )

    Art thread.

from a friend: "Buddy of mine owns a flight charter company in AK. He just flew a photographer, Norio Matsumoto, up onto the glacier at Mt. McKinley for the 13th year in a row. This guy builds a snow cave on the glacier and lives there for 7 weeks taking pics, with his main goal being taking the perfect pic of the Northern Lights and Mt. McKinley. " more info here :)

    General Movie Thread

I think they left out all the parts that.. had anything to do with Edgar Allan Poe. I guess the upside is that it's obviously not a bio, but c'mon.. a dashing, in-demand, well-connected and famous Edgar Allan? They've obviously done their research. The Raven - Movie Trailers - iTunes

  12. As probably the best illustrator on LST (see my epic "squidpants" and try not to be jealous) I have a ton of advice.... Draw outside of your comfort zone. I used to draw every day and while I was never a spectacular artist I was able to successfully draw things that looks mostly like intended. As my carpal tunnel got progressively worse and I drew less and less, I'd find myself guilty of 'doodling' and Stewart is right... it's a much different exercise. Now... I draw weird little scratchy things that look like... squids.

  15. @ChrisvK Nobody believes you when you say you don't want to be a tattooer. But like everyone else says, practice. Practice, then practice some more. Here's a golden nugget: Doodling requires you to repeat shapes with your hands. Drawing requires you to use your mind more than your hands. Good luck.

  16. Hahaa! I forgot about the armband thing. In the last few years the number of people asking for hand/neck tattoos when they have (insert single digit number here) tattoos has increased to the point I've considered bringing back the 'illegal' story. Taking 20 minutes to explain to a whiny teenager why the world isn't fair, twice or more every day? Or taking 20 seconds to tell them it's illegal? Tempting, for sure. So we just say "Sorry, we don't do them" Which is more fun than you'd expect, especially as I get to say it while I'm tattooing someone else's hand/neck. @ShawnPorter Brevity is the soul of wit.

  17. Armbands that connect are bad luck. Variation: Armbands that connect can cut off the circulation and your arm will fall off. Face/hand/neck tattoos are illegal. I always feel bad posting right after Stewart. He goes into so much detail that it makes my two sentence posts seem lazy. Perhaps by mentioning this fact it will add a little bit of 'meat' to my post and make it seem like I have more than a ten word vocabulary.

  18. Some of the stories and half-truths are pretty amusing and they serve a purpose to protect or obscure some things that should remain at least a little esoteric. What bugs me more than fables and tall-tales are when someone has half a useful piece of information and it swirls around in their busy little mind until they think they are a fountain of knowledge. They then spout that 'knowledge' to their friends or to people who are desperate for crumbs of information on the internet. But that's a different thing I guess. I'm not of the opinion that everything should be laid out and explained to any yahoo that comes into a shop or internet forum. So I don't want to burst too many bubbles. But... In may towns and cities in the north of England, many people believe if you get an 'X' tattooed on the sole of your foot you get it for free. Variations even extend to: If you get the bottom of your foot tattooed totally black, you get any other tattooing free, for life, from any other tattooer, in the world. As if more than 5 tattooers can agree on anything, never mind every tattooer in the world adhering to some secret code. Visitors or customers in those shops were all totally bummed out when I told them that's not true. At least not the way I work. Fucking nuts.

Having more sessions on my back. Going to NY and planning a visit to Smith Street. Also planning something on my forearm. Lastly, I am going to the bay area tattoo convention!!!! Oh yeah, before I do all this "tattoo" stuff, as my wife refers to it, I'll be looking forward to February. My wife is expecting our second (AND LAST) child. It's a boy and we are stoked!!!!
