So I've tried to answer this thread a couple of times and haven't had a good response to post. I'm a few glasses of wine into the night so let's see if that helps.... BEST/WORST of 2011: 1.) Personal high of 2011? Traveling to London twice and going to Frith Street. My wife and I really enjoy traveling and she's super supportive of my tattoo addiction. 2.) Personal low of 2011? Unfortunately, my mother is very sick and this year has been stressful. 3.) Best LST Thread? Tattoo Lowdown 4.) Worst LST Thread? All the ones that I end :( I've nicked name myself "THREAD KILLER"..... I'm trying to get better on my contributions..... 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): Skull with Roses on my forearm 6.) Favorite tattoo (on someone else): There is some great stuff in our gallery, the Valerie Vargas sleeve Gent with Lady. 7.) Favorite artist? Stewart Robson 8.) Best/Worst movie: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we have a little one and we haven't gotten out to the movies that much.... 9.) Best/Worst album: With iTunes I don't really do albums.... Just song after song.... 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: Food.... I love all types, love restaurants and cooking! 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: Went to Phantom of the Opera in London.....It was fun and I have seen it a couple of times but it was my wife's first time and she loved it. 12.) Ive had so much food/whiskey in the last 12 hours that I cant even talk about it. All I know is that Im really bloated right now and super drunk listening to murder city devils and drinking whiskey. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I dig this a lot. We are all people with a common interest and like sharing experiences thru this site. I get just as much of a kick talking to someone who looking for a first tattoo or a tattooer I admire. When it comes down to it we are all just people with our own interests. I could give a shit about people opinions on my tattoos. If you like it, great! If you dont, nod your head and move on... we dont need a system for making people think they got a shitty tattoo. This isnt Inkmasters, its an awesome tattoo community.

There was a brief trend in one of the more downmarket parts of Dublin for young guys to get their first names tattooed on their necks in gothic lettering. I kind of approved, because it made it hard for them to give me a false name.

After my oldest was just born I fell out of a Taxi with the pram (dragged out more like it) and broke my elbow. generally tho I cant be trusted in the kitchen, whether its slicing open my fingers or burning myself in the oven i'm your man.

I'd love to have someone who knows me, like actually KNOWS knows me to get ahold of this Drake fellow and let him know exactly who he has challenged to fisticuffs. And I think it's pretty interesting that he is essentially saying that if you get his name tattooed on your forehead, he would want to meet you.

Ohh, rockelman you reminded me of something that I would have wished I forgot. When I was younger my friends and I were driving by my high school (30 minutes away from my house) and I got out to talk to some friends in a different car. My friends being who they are... decided to speed off with out me (both cars) I ran after the one I knew I could catch. Hopped on top of it stayed for a few seconds and then fell off. Car was going about 30 mph and I quickly tucked into as much of a ball as I could. Landed on my shoulder then head. Got a concussion and blacked out for a minute or so. When to a friends house got a bag of ice and Ibuprofen... then home and went to sleep. all was good after I woke up except for a killer head ache.

Getting engaged, putting up two degree shows at the same time to get two BFAs, finishing college, getting to travel and cast iron and see lots of friends all over the southern States for my last semester, and starting to work at a tattoo shop recently. 2.) Personal low of 2011? Hard times finding a job for a bit this summer, and having to deal with my fiancee living in Ireland. Skype eases that second one, though. 3.) Best LST Thread? Latest Tattoo Lowdown, the funny picture one, and Slang Terms That Make You Cringe. 4.) Worst LST Thread? Not sure... haven't read them all. 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): As for finished ones, the tattoo machine and banners on my left arm. Unfinished, the outline of my chest and stomach. 6.) Favorite tattoo (on someone else): Waaaaaaaaaaay too many to name. 7.) Favorite artist? Waaaaaaaaaaay too many to name. 8.) Best/Worst movie: Hobo With a Shotgun was super rad... Not sure of a worst. Probably something I couldn't afford to go see in theaters. 9.) Best/Worst album: best... William Elliot Whitmore's Field Songs and Touche Amore's Parting the Seas Between Brightness and Me. i don't know of a worst... but i've grown to hate the entirety of dubstep as a genre this year. 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: not sure... i don't know if i have any guilty pleasures. i tend to be pretty upfront with what i enjoy. 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: I was low on going to shows, but i really enjoyed seeing Gallows with their new vocalist a few months back. As for ones i didn't attend, my friend's band played with Terror and Trapped Under Ice in May, but i skipped it so i wasn't dead when my fiancee flew in the next day. 12.) Sum up the year in one word: Optimistic.

I met a tattooer a few years back, can't remember the guy's name but he was a real nice dude and a pretty decent artist. He was telling me that even as a tattooer he was having a hell of a time finding someone to do his hands without his arms being done first. His argument was that he didn't WANT his arms done. As we get more and more into the "general public" (I loathe using it, but I can't think of a better way to delineate the difference between "tattoo people" and everyone else) using tattoos to express aesthetics that aren't so codified to our subculture... Sorry... got really wordy there. Anyhoo.... He eventually got his hands done. Still doesn't want his arms done. I worry that we're trending into a snobbery thing and that we're the ones that need to change. Like when Hardy started really pushing the planned out Japanese bodysuit versus the more traditional 'patched vulcanized tire' look there was a "these people don't GET it" snobbiness towards single piece Americana tattoos. But we've luckily worked through that. Now we're more evolved and just make fun of chromed up pieces. That or these Warped Tour Bodysuit folks are just douches. Either way.

Best/Worst album: I have not had too much luck finding an album I am completely in love with just some songs from various artists and bands. 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: Listening to Christmas music on iTunes radio for the last 2-3 months. LOL 11.) To be honest, the foot isn't really a traditional Japanese spot to tattoo. You could get many different images done their though, sea creatures, small animals, masks... are you wanting a background with it or just a "one point" japanese tattoo? For Bunshin Horitoshi's site it is easy to navigate once you look around a bit, but here is a link to his tattoos ????????? Hmm Stupid injuries eh?? As mentioned above about thinking that you would have heard more from the Skaters here. . . I, from Skateboarding had a few notable injuries, a chipped piece of bone in my ankle joint and along with that was some torn ligaments. Also, on another occasion, I split my knee wide open and cracked my knee cap what a fun one that was LOL. Before the blood started I could see my knee cap. . . oops. Snowboarding I have had a few. Two that stand out for me were, a concussion from a failed attempt at clearing a massive table top jump. missed the landing by about 3 feet. The other was a compacted and shifted tailbone with my hips severely out of alignment resulting in my legs going numb if I sat down for more than 5 min. A really funny one was when I was little. My brother and I were sledding on our driveway with those crazy carpets. I ran to jump on the sled but stepped on the end of it, it took me down and I hit the driveway chin first LOL. yup that needed a few stitches and a lot of hot chocolate to calm me down.

stupid ways i hurt myself usually involves baking cookies... or hot water. recently, it involved hot water and my new pup. she tried scratching her neck while lying dangerously close to the edge of the couch, her back towards the edge. i was sitting next to her with a cup of steaming hot water that had just been poured from the kettle on the stove, and just as i said to her "you're going to fall off the couch" she looked at me like "oh shit!" and fell, but in the process decided that flailing her legs would work as an attempt to keep her balance. my cup was kicked due to the flailing, and hot water landed all over my legs, missing my crotch by mere inches (thank fuckin' god). it's still healing.

@Ursula and everyone else who weighed-in, thanks for voicing up. In order to know what a good tattoo is VS a bad tattoo OR a bad tattoo VS a mediocre tattoo and so on, one must often see the difference. It's an open forum so this is part of it though we thought ahead, somewhat, and put some things in place... -Use the 'like' button because photos/tattoos that are most 'liked' rank higher and appear on the first pages. -Next, there is the comments section so leave feedback on both good, mediocre, and bad tattoos but be respectful. -Lastly, everyone starts somewhere in getting tattoos and more often than not we start getting bad tattoos first and it is not til we learn what a good tattoo is and/or someone offers constructive criticism that we realize I need to get better tattoos or some time passes and you take note its all bleeding together or its fading much faster than it should. This site is aimed at all interested in tattoos so all have the opportunity to learn and get better tattoos. Shit, I was in a shop topless the other day getting tattooed and I know when ever this happens around those who know tattoos I am going to get comments on my bad tattoos so I laugh with them while getting better tattoos.

I think the new year requires another meet up of us bay area folks. Shall we brainstorm ideas? There have been some damn fine ones floating around here recently. H2O GO! Yep. Wine drunk.

@dcostello makes a good point. What could be cool though is if the front page had a picture generator of some sort where you could get a bunch of random photos from the gallery and push the like button on those you....ehm...like, with the option to leave a comment. I don`t know if this is possible, but maybe that could boost some traffic in the gallery section.

I think the dislike is kinda harsh for voting down someone's own tattoos. If it's an artist uploading their work, that's one thing, but LST doesn't currently differentiate between artists and collectors.

Same thought. Guessing anyone that took issue isn't very familiar with his work. Or life in general. Safer for him to just publish an articulate apology for those people to feel satisfied. Better PR than to say, "You're all a bag of dicks, go pick up a book."

Had similar experiences, it's a weird feeling! Also, I often don't feel like "the tattooed guy" even though, for example at family functions, I very obviously am. It is kind of nice though to have the anonymity granted by long sleeves. Also, V/Gun made me think of "vagina weapon." .....sorry. I blame D for that for some reason. I truly can't understand that mentality and it would make me question the dude's motives, nice guy or not. I wish it was more complex than the instant credibility the person assumes they'll garner.. but seems to me that type of person has no interest in tattoos and simply wants attention. I hate getting tattooed the older I get, but there's no way I'm stopping and there's no way I could justify hands/neck til I'm older. And at least got started on my back. Hands/neck only seems like a red flag. Like women that have children's voices, or a person that moves five times inside of a year. Or a guy that says he doesn't want to tattoo his arms and gets his hands done. Red flag.

i snapped my collarbone in half trying to jump down a hill... it was about a six foot drop, and i didn't roll through correctly because i was running too fast... and there's a permanent lump in my left shin from not seeing the hitch for a trailer i was unloading in Alabama a few years ago. the swelling/bruising was pretty gnarly, and no hair grows there anymore either. however, from everyone's reactions, it was hilarious to see, so... i guess that's a good thing.

I don't feel that his apology is sincere, since much like myself I doubt he thinks it's necessary. Thomas is, for want of a better word, a 'public figure' now and I reckon he doesn't want his brand tarnished by other people's ignorance. So it's probably just easier to 'apologize' than to educate.

yeah there's been a lot of kittens, 3 of them who were at my house for 3 weeks. they're really cute, but very smelly, and somewhat stressful. i have a pup now too, Coleslaw, who keeps me very busy.

i have two roommates now with full hand tattoos and basically nothing else (ok, one of them has a crappy upper arm tattoo, but that's it). one of them is in a master's program at my old college, the other does not have a job and is drowning in school debt. the one in the master's program has a portrait of her dog on each hand and his name across her knuckles, the other has a v on his right hand, and a gun on his left (v/gun=vegan, get it?). i don't particularly like either tattoo, but the portraits/lettering are better in quality than the v/gun. i don't think of it much now, but it's kind of weird to be the most heavily tattooed person in the house, and the least visibly tattooed person too.

Lesson to the wise ,you can't train through injuries .If your serious about what you do treat any injury accordingly ,this may sound prudent to male bravodo ,but then again you haven't seen the number of guys virtually ruined,depressed or cripped by what started out as treatable .

No worries pal. They are also called abdominal pads and dont stick to wounds. They are great for covering up intestines that have leaked out from penetrating injuries. But I think they work better for tattoos.

Never stop training!!! When I fuck up and give up my neck, I just tap. That's in training of course, tournament or on the street I'm not fucking tapping. In training I tap a lot, if the guy I'm rolling with get's the hold, I tap then start again. I've been injury free for the last 6 months.

Perhaps we should suggest a "dislike" feature?

the whole 'do what you want' fills me with dread, mostly cos every time it crops up bar once they never really mean it. it usually involves me having to think about ideas, since they arent giving me anything to go on and taking time to develop them into a design. the few times it's been requested of me, ive mentioned skulls or animals and i could see them shrug ever so slightly and then the words come out, 'i'm not really a fan of skulls...' or 'i was thinking more of a girl with a pocketwatch/magpie/victorian artefact...' my thing is, that if you just want something, ask for it, dont tell me to go crazy then say youre not into what i just said, specially when im not even pushing the boat out. it's not doing me a favour letting me do what i want, its giving me a headache, i much prefer some direction or a seed of an idea. the combination is much better than starting out cold. also, one week i might really wanna do a blood thirsty warrior and maybe i wanna do a 2 headed medieval dragon the next, my reference and influences change from week to week, i dont keep a list of things i wanna do, maybe some tattooers do but i dont. my conclusion on this is, only ask your tattooer for whatever they wanna tattoo if you are 100% sure you can live with yourself wearing whatever they come up with on your skin forever, and if you can't, then give them a couple of ideas or ask if theres something theyve been thinking theyd like to do recently and keep it open.

I don't enjoy doing full paragraphs of lettering in a "type face" style.If someone asks for something "hidden" in their tattoo,such as lettering or a name,I ask them......Why are you getting something tattooed on you that you aren't proud enough to wear openly in the world? I was taught to tattoo anything that walked in the door and I hardly ever turn down a tattoo.I just cannot understand the reason that people want to mess up a perfectly nice tattoo with,names.initials,vines that turn into names,names in white ink,names hidden in flowers,etc.. I wish more people in this area would figure out what they want,stop watching TV and get a tattoo that in no way involves a sad story or their favorite 15 lines of Sylvia Plath poetry or a half page of bible verse tattooed with brown pigment.I quit doing solid bands around anything and I have never tattooed a face.I don't believe in it.Inner lip is fine.I just tell them that it's going to be the most painful and expensive 10 minutes they have had in a while.

1.) Personal high of 2011? In general, some point during a trip to Japan with my GF - possibly when we were drinking in a little bar called Quasimodo's in Kyoto. The guy who runs it converted his garage into a bar after he retired, and he tends bar and plays jazz records all night. Great scotch selection. In tattooing terms, probably the point at which I had the bulk of my backpiece by Ching finished and I could see how the contrasts were going to pop out. 2.) Personal low of 2011? Probably my GF breaking her hand at a martial arts seminar that I organised. These things happen, but it was pretty lousy because it's the third time she's broken her hand in two years (three different sports, three different kinds of accident). Because I was organising the thing I couldn't drop everything and go off to get it sorted out with her, which was less than ideal. 3.) Best LST Thread? The backpiece thread inspires me. 4.) Worst LST Thread? The Bubbleberry thread got pretty unsightly. 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): My back, I suppose. I like the homeward bound design on my thigh by Chris Smith (Deluxe Tattoo) also. 6.) Favorite tattoo (on someone else): Tough one. I think probably one of Shige's backpieces - maybe the black and grey one that he did as a tribute to falconry. 7.) Favorite artist? Sorry, a bit boring but probably Shige. I think he is in a league of his own. 8.) Best/Worst movie: Drive = best. The last Resident Evil movie = worst. 9.) Favorite artist? i don't know the guys name but he's an inmate at one of the local state prisons and he makes these incredible and detailed sculptures out of toothpicks, sometimes with moveable parts. thinks like a harley with moving wheels, etc. it's insane! 8.) Best/Worst movie: best: "such hawks, such hounds" or "until the light takes us" worst: anything that was described as "a box office hit" or "wildly entertaining" 9.) Best/Worst album: best: these got played the most: the naked & the famous-passive me,aggressive you --black breath-razor to oblivion ep --mastadon-hunter -- worst: uhhhh....i didn't buy it whatever it was! 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: smoking way too many american spirits 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: best and only one i did: nashville pussy/supersuckers didn't: eyehategod 12.) Best television series since i don't have cable, i hadn't seen "dexter" until this year and watched the first 4 seasons 3 times. i've also watched all the "it's always sunny in philadelphia" series repeatedly all year.

Personal low of 2011? it was a multiplex of getting denied entry to the USA (where I'd been living for three years and have my dogs, house, fiancé) coupled with the death of my grandfather and a few months later my grandmother. I say this was a multiplex because I came back to Canada for my grandparents and then was unable to return to America, so it was one long shitty event. Not seeing my dogs for almost a year and my fiancé for months on end is fucking shitty. 3.) Best LST Thread? ICP, Random Photos, Hip Hop Thread, full back piece thread 4.) Worst LST Thread? The one where Bubbleberry wrote a novel about how shitty and sad of a person I am. That was pretty tight. (just as a side note, he tried to add me on Facebook a few weeks ago, according to his profile he actually owns a shop in where ever the fuck he lives and he was the one doing those awful tattoos that he claimed his "wife" did. it also appears he has stolen other people's tattoo work and put it on his shop's page. I wish i could meet him so I could kick his balls off, and then show him what a real tattoo is supposed to look like) 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): Is this tattoos I got this year? If so I guess none cause I didn't really get tattooed except for a little souvenir one. If it just means overall out of everything on me at this point I'd have to go with my back even though it's not done 6.) I've fallen off the new music band wagon as of late. 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: these gourmet chocolate bars we sell at my mom's store. They are about 600 calories and taste like it. Headache inducing amounts of sugar. 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: Actually I don't think I attended one show this year. That's what happens with you get stuck in a tiny town in Canada. Oh wait actually I went and saw TV On The Radio and it was amazing. And the worst concert was the opening band for TV On The Radio, Lissie Trully or some shit. Whoever they were, they sucked. 12.) Sum up the year in one word: Frustrating.

Hey Folks, Thanks for this thread. Instead of it being a big ole bitchfest, it really has given me a good outlook, stuff to remember when I feel like I have to write a six paragraph bible verse the size of a postage stamp. I tattoo whatever walks through the door, and sometimes it is taxing to my soul, but what is more taxing is the thought of not tattooing.

Well i pretty much do what ever people ask me to do. even the celtic tree that "should feel like strenght and love" what the fuck is that suppose to look like.....oh crisp and bright. right. when i get all upity about my job i just remind myself its not my tattoo my ego only extends till im done then its thiers for the rest of thier life. even if you got john mayers sleeve tattooed on you. haha.but i did that shit tight. seriously ill do it all i actually love tribal shit and people think im kidding but i do like it ,just not most of the people who lend to it, much like the anal retentive people who like celtic. but what can you do? i dont believe everyone should be tattooed, shoot me but this aint for eveyone.
