  8. I don't feel that his apology is sincere, since much like myself I doubt he thinks it's necessary. Thomas is, for want of a better word, a 'public figure' now and I reckon he doesn't want his brand tarnished by other people's ignorance. So it's probably just easier to 'apologize' than to educate.

In my experience most of the "famous" tattooers I've met have been super nice people. Oliver, Tim, Scott, Rassier, Lehi, Juan, Darren Brass, Mike Wilson, I know there's more I can't remember at the moment, none of them were rude, or acted like a big man on campus when I met them. Oliver actually really surprised me by remembering who I was after meeting me once and not seeing me for a year or two after that. I am one of the many who has tattooer their initials onto his arm. He was super hospitable every time I've been to Dallas and has treated my fiancé (a tattooer) really really well and given him great opportunities to work at his shop. Tim was also super nice to me even though I unknowingly had creeped him out earlier haha. Mike Wilson has given more to me and my fiancé then we could ever thank him for. So basically I don't think getting even more crazy famous is going to make Oliver untouchable to those who really want to get tattooed, just might take a little longer.

    Food and Drink list

Made a Jamie Oliver recipe last night for pork belly tacos. Fried them in paprika along with haricot beans, served on corn tacos (store-bought) with greek yoghurt and a salsa of ripe tomato and avocado diced.

@Scott R most I've just met at conventions or things like that. I haven't had a chance to get tattooed by a lot of them, but I hope to! Not too many cool tattooers come to Canada too often, and lately I've been stuck here.

    Art thread.

Got my girlfriend a Stephen Wiltshire print for Christmas. He's an unsual guy. An an autistic child growing up, he didn't speak, but used art materials to communicate. Over time it became clear he was both a talented artist and someone who had an unusually good visual memory. He's best know for drawing street scenes and city panoramas from memory, using fine-line black pens. The Stephen Wiltshire Gallery - Drawings, paintings and prints Bought her a print of the Toronto skyline (it's a city we visit together a lot). What I really want, though, is one of the big panoramas ... Tokyo, ideally.

  30. I have Baphomet on my left hand. So unless I'm wearing gloves I pretty much always have to rock the 'uncomfortable looks/questions' risk every time I talk to people. A little kid asked me once if it was "The Devil". Instead of getting all wordy, I said "yeah, because the DEVIL IS COOOOL". He smiled, the little scamp. Even kids love the dark lord.

  33. One day at the shop this chick was telling us we should pay to tattoo her. We said the only way it would happen was if the artist got to put his signature one her. She said she would do it if we gave her twenty bucks. We said that for twenty bucks we would have to sign her and her friend. They both did it... Not the worst tattoos I have ever seen - just the worst decision.

  34. Not sure where else to put this, but since most of the board's parents probably check this thread, I figure it's as good a place as any. I was talking to our 2.5 year old daughter the other night. Here's our conversation: said, "You know, when Daddy was little, he had curly blond hair just like yours." She said, "And you had little hands." "That's right! I did have little hands." "And you had toes and feet, too, Daddy." "Right, and I still have toes and feet. They're just bigger. And when you grow up, you'll have bigger toes and feet." Then she replied, "And tattoos!" I laughed and asked what her tattoos will be. "Skulls! And animals." "What kind of animals?" "A donkey! And a turkey. And skeletons!" It was a proud moment. But donkeys and turkeys?

    The Swastika symbol in tattoos

I think it's funny that people still jump on the swastika and don't think twice about a Mjollnir, cross, clovers, runes, 88's or any of the other numerical coded WP gang affiliated stuff. Granted, I'm not seeing any of those symbols in reputable tattooer's portfolios, but I bet people wouldn't raise the stink they do w/ the swastika. There was actually some chick on LA Ink that got Corey Miller to tattoo a Mjollnir on her back because she stated her boyfriend's name was Thor-led to some pretty funny jokes. If I was sitting at a bus stop w/ a hipster sporting a hand poked swastika or a guy looking armored up with black and gray runes, I'd be more wary of the latter. Personally, I know what the symbol means to me and I wouldn't choose to put that out there.

  37. Got on the computer after a couple of days off and see this story in a few different places. I brought up the topic at the shop and pretty much the consensus was "Everyone gets the tattoo they deserve". I am not sure why anyone would be mad at a tattooer for being a tattooer. I think sometimes people fixate on the artistic aspect of tattooing and getting tattooed by the guys with the names they forget that sometimes it's about providing a service to a customer. This tattoo is sure not for everyone, but she is stoked about it and that is all that should matter.

  39. Im not for face tattoos period, but whatever. If someone wants to get something stupid tattooed on their face, who gives a shit. They probably are going to make some life altering decisions that are not tattooed related. There are plenty of kids out their with bullshit neck and hand tattoos who are probably 18 years old and will deal with it the rest of their lives. Im sure 99 percent are not tattoo artist or rock stars, so they will probably have hell to pay finding a job. I believe in freewill, that includes allowing people to make dumb ass decisions. Any grown person should be able to think this decision through.

  40. The greatest thing is, she just came back today to ask about finishing it. She was totally stoked on it, and was wondering about me doing some tip shading and bolding up the lines. She was so pumped on it, and wasn't sure if she should add more because she liked it so much how it was. I just told her that if we fancy it up a bit, she'll be even more stoked. I love making people happy, what an added bonus to an already awesome job I have!

    Best/Worst of 2011

1.) Personal high of 2011? In general, some point during a trip to Japan with my GF - possibly when we were drinking in a little bar called Quasimodo's in Kyoto. The guy who runs it converted his garage into a bar after he retired, and he tends bar and plays jazz records all night. Great scotch selection. In tattooing terms, probably the point at which I had the bulk of my backpiece by Ching finished and I could see how the contrasts were going to pop out. 2.) Personal low of 2011? Probably my GF breaking her hand at a martial arts seminar that I organised. These things happen, but it was pretty lousy because it's the third time she's broken her hand in two years (three different sports, three different kinds of accident). Because I was organising the thing I couldn't drop everything and go off to get it sorted out with her, which was less than ideal. 3.) Best LST Thread? The backpiece thread inspires me. 4.) Worst LST Thread? The Bubbleberry thread got pretty unsightly. 5.) Favorite tattoo (on you): My back, I suppose. I like the homeward bound design on my thigh by Chris Smith (Deluxe Tattoo) also. 6.) Favorite tattoo (on someone else): Tough one. I think probably one of Shige's backpieces - maybe the black and grey one that he did as a tribute to falconry. 7.) Favorite artist? Sorry, a bit boring but probably Shige. I think he is in a league of his own. 8.) Best/Worst movie: Drive = best. The last Resident Evil movie = worst. 9.) Best/Worst album: I didn't buy a single newly released album in 2011 - amazing, I know. I wasn't illegally downloading either... I just had a non- new music year. Listened to a lot of Avett Brothers. 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: Craft beer. 11.) Best show/concert you did and did not attend: Alison Krauss + Union Station in Dublin - missed it. 12.) Sum up the year in one word: CRUNCH.

Favorite tattoo (on someone else): I wish I could find it.. It's this dark purple dragon huge back piece if i remember correctly, its amazing 7.) Favorite artist? To many to list.. 8.) Best/Worst movie: is the 2nd Sherlock Holmes acceptable?/drive angry (that was this year right? damn I have no life) 9.) Best/Worst album: ugh 10.) Biggest guilty pleasure: Bones.. damnit Booth is mmm.. Excuse me I'll finish this later 11.) 43. Honestly, I don't care how many of you are friends with or know the dude who did it. He never should have done the tattoo. It's shit like that, which gives everyone else a bad name. Doesn't matter how good of a tattooer the dude supposedly is, he just ruined someone's life. For real. Having a band tattoo on your arm or leg that you later regret is one thing. Having it across your entire fucking forehead? Totally horrible. It kind of makes me mad that we can have a heated discussion over weather people should be tattooing hands, where most people say no you shouldn't unless it's a heavily tattooed person who you know. Yet something like this just makes people laugh and think nothing less of the guy who did it. Fuck that. Bad idea on her part, his (tattooers) part, and bad idea on whoever manages that shop for letting it happen. I already think one dude from that shop is total dick, now I kind of think that about two people there. Needless to say, I will never be taking my business there.
