Eagle Tattoo Designs
suburbanxcore and 5 others reacted to todo_es_gravy for a topic
That was me! Scott's eagles are awesome aren't they. I absolutely love it, so proud. He did the whole thing in 3.5 hours too. That was a really cool day with lots of very talented people about just before the convention. I still have no idea what to put in the banner though.6 points -

How will the strong survive the many?
gougetheeyes and one other reacted to G.Uristti for a topic
the talent pool is ever expanding and if we dont reach out to expand the client pool we will all drown. tv exposure, be it nonsense or not, was the inevitable. with a growing industry we need the clients. dont worry about how tv molds their expectations, get the people in the door and educate them. make them believe in you and your shop. i remember watching the sailor jerry documentary and it touching down on his distaste for lyle tuttle. he didnt like how tuttle was putting himself out there on main street but the truth of the matter is that if guys didnt do that then the business would of never grown and most of us probably wouldnt be tattooers. just be thankful that in an economy that has finally effected our industry, that were all still here and doing what we love. tattoos are a luxury at this point so you kinda gotta put yourself out that as the guys/girls that will provide you with the best this luxury has to offer. of course its always nice to hold onto our roots and be true to the ways of old... we certainly stand on the shoulders of giants but if you dont recognize the path ahead, your path will end2 points -

Twenty-Something Women Most Tattooed
hawk reacted to ThaliaCamille for a topic
(Probably doesn't qualify as "WTF", but it is a new story) Health News - Twenty something women most tattooed "According to a study by La Trobe University’s Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) a greater proportion of women aged 20 to 29 are the most tattooed Australians, with almost one in three sporting a tattoo, whereas in the older age groups tattoos were more common among men." I realised the number was growing, but I wouldn't have guessed 1 in 3. Apparently the number for all adults is 1 in 7, and like other studies this one finds that "tattoos still appear to be associated with risk-taking behaviour in adults." "Having been tattooed also correlated with certain risk-taking behaviours, most notably smoking, cannabis use, and greater numbers of lifetime sexual partners... Tattooing was popular among men who had not finished secondary school, tradesmen, and women who did not live with their partners, whereas men and women who had completed postsecondary education were less likely to have a tattoo." Most tattooed people I know don't fit that description - my friends are university educated, non smokers (and many non drinkers) etc. I would be interested to know how many people would describe themselves as "risk-takers" in general - I wouldn't, yet here I am (seemingly defying the statistics).1 point -
How will the strong survive the many?
xjamestravisx reacted to Benjamin Karner for a topic
The strong will survive by simply staying in the game. Keep your head down and keep working, and you have nothing to worry about. All of the people who got into tattooing for money and recognition and nothing else will soon give up and go back to the rat race.1 point -

My last three tattoos were unplanned. I love them all as much as the ones I planned out. My birthday is next month and I plan on treating myself to a trip down to Lifetime Tattoo and picking out another sailor jerry piece or something off the wall. But I'm definitely going to pick it out that day, not in advance.1 point

@Lochlan Many thanks. I book nearly all as appointments. But some of my tattoos are a bit spontainious. Today for instance, as I was finishing up today I thought I would see if they have an hour slot available next week, as my wife is at Frith Street getting tattooed. Emiliano was available so I booked him for next Saturday. My tattoos on my thumbs were totally unplanned though.1 point

Had some time to kill yesterday between meetings and clients though not enough to go home and relax so did the usual, "I'll go hangout at blackheart and say hello". In the back of my mind wanting to get tattooed though knew they were probably all busy but I got lucky, Cody Miller was free. So got my elbow, a long narrow open space on my arm done and some quick filler. While getting tattooed realized, I never shared some photos as was asked after my previous post in this thread.....I think I have more impromptu tattoos then actual appointment tattoos. Damn I love walk-in shops so long story short once these spots on my arm heal I'll post some pictures of my right arm as that will be easiest rather than pictures of my whole body which is mostly covered in impromptu tattoos. BTW @jade1955 do you make appointments at Frith St or just do a lot of walk-ins? Very impressed with how often you get tattooed and the quality!1 point

This is an eagle done by Rosie C. This looks like the eagle that is untying they hula girl that says "Don't worry, I help you" in the book. My dentist is his grandson. The guy who did the tile in my bathrooms had this tattoo. I will locate the NKC tattoos he had on his arms and post those too.1 point -

I've been getting my old work covered finally. All of that Little Vinnie flash I thought was so cool in the early nineties is being covered up with big bold color work. Lance McClaine covered a piece on my right arm with some bold roses......Corey Rogers did a Panther head bustin out of a rose, then TimmyTatts did a big bowling pin eagle on my right forearm........Still have a ways to go, but I am loving my arms again.1 point -

people always have strong opinions and lofty ideals when it's something that doesn't directly involve them and more often than not, something that they have no real clue of what they would do until they were actually in that position. i think the only real mistake you made was giving the interview, mainly because you referred to your customer as a crackhead or a shermed out chola. i get how those things might be said and what you were saying but it was kind of a bummer because i think you do have more consideration for your customers than that implied. also it seems to have given people reading the story the impression that she was intoxicated when getting the tattoo. i've read other assumptions about her not having a bunch of tattoos but i've never actually seen that mentioned nor from most of the photos i've seen can you tell if she is or not. either way, i know from my own experience that the soapbox is far higher to climb up to once you are in a situation that puts your opinions to practice.1 point

The only one I've ever got that was unplanned is this one. I got it in 1995, in Harker Heights, Texas. I was stationed at Ft. Hood at the time. I walked into a tattoo shop (I think it was called Rooster's Tattoo) in the middle of the week when the place was empty. It was on a sheet of flash tacked to the counter as soon as you walked in the door. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. It had a touch-up a year or so ago, but it's never been altered.1 point

Tattoo silhouette and negative space
rozone reacted to Petri Aspvik for a topic
Yeah, the Stuart leg sleeves are amazing. I want to strive to that outlook myself. This one by Scott Harrison is bad ass also. I dont really like Scott's stuff that much personally, but this owns! This tattoo and the one by Stuart look like Lungfish Feral Hymns album sounds. Images to sounds And btw. About the use of space around tattoos. Check out the Robert Ryan interview in TAM, he talks about that in there.1 point -
Tattoo silhouette and negative space
The Tig reacted to Romance & Worship for a topic
i like the outline if it works with the design. i think stewart robson at frith st. tattoo did a fine job on this one... i totally think mario is right too, cut out everything that doesn't need to be there. i always find that the tattoos that make a big impact, are simpler and less involved. filler can definitely look cool, when done right. but i prefer the negative space between tattoos, i also think it gives each piece a stronger impact and it adds more of a storyboard effect to the body, which i think reads better. stuart cripwell at spider murphy's executed this perfectly...1 point -
