To fill or not to fill? The space between...
The Tig and 2 others reacted to gougetheeyes for a topic
Gotta say, when dars and stots are done right it makes a world of difference! Be it from empty space or a portion of your arm you got fucked up by someone who, at least at the time, didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.. or had never even seen stars and dots filler.. So @Perez helped me out by doing some little filler yesterday and trying to get the half of my arm that was starred and dotted and looked like shit back on track. Here are two really terrible photos but I am so pumped that my arm basically looks the way I always thought it should! Can't believe I waited this long to get this done.. Thanks buddy!!3 points -

Lifetime Tattoo in Denver was having a Pearl Harbor Day deal yesterday, palm sized Sailor Jerry flash for $41 (for the year Pearl Harbor was bombed). I couldn't pass that deal up from such a good shop. I almost felt guilty getting such a nice tattoo for so little cash (I tipped well) I got this: Sorry, terrible cell phone pic...3 points -

Mike Brown was a good man and a good tattooer till the end. I am glad I got to work with him and get tattooed by him and learned how do do proper script from him. He wrote the nicest Saoirse I'd ever seen and I still use it. He was also the kinda fella who would always send people your way and knew the value of a proper introduction. He did some brilliant flash, proper fine line black n grey style.. and some of the best gangster cartoons goin. God bless him. R.I.P.3 points -

I loved the video, I worked for GTC in Modesto from @ 1990 til @ 1998. I had some good times, Charlie had a lot of stories and I may have heard them all. I went to some of those conventions back then and because of my associations was introduced to a lot of them older cats , Jack ,Freddy, and I cant remember too well but I believe Mike was one of them I met. I was very intimidated by these dudes, I remember Freddy just sort of scared me by his presence. these were pretty hardcore people with a lot of experiences and I had heard about a lot of it from Charlie. It really reminds me of how this business has changed. Its funny, I remember Scott Sylvia had told me that I frightened him the first time I walked in his shop around 89'. Its f#ckin hilarious to me. Honesty and confidence is often frightening. Most of these old cats were pretty straight up, If they said it, they meant it. Thats sort of rare nowadays.FYI, That backpiece in that video of the bullfight and roses is Charlie's. I guess that's about all I've got ,just thought Id drop it. It was a different time.2 points -

Tattoos and the workplace
hogg reacted to Tight-Lines for a topic
Come out to Alameda County homie. No one gives a shit out here. Its all company based when it comes down to it, not the people you are dealing with. Choose an area where your skills trump your lust to color and shade your body in various images and scripts. That's what I did, and it seems to be working out so far. If you want to work in a place where the clientele is a bunch of stuck up rich people... you probably should be clean cut with no visible tattoos... but it you want to work in the hood... it helps to have shit like that. You relate to people better with it.1 point -
I am amazed people care so much about this. Tattoos don't have the power they used to have, thats all I know. Used to be all ya needed was a panther on yer arm to make u unemployable, now u need a face tattoo.1 point

Tattoo Compliments/Positive Comments?
Duffa reacted to gougetheeyes for a topic
It's a great thing when people do their research, especially when they come up with some really top-notch tattooers they'd like to get tattooed by. Such a good feeling in a weird way.1 point -
I've only ever traveled to get tattooed...... well, the good ones. I got tattooed by Phil Holt in San Jose, San Francisco, and Tampa.... walk in tattoos in Oakland, and Brooklyn. last minute roses in San Diego, the LA area, San Francisco, and Chicago.... Made a lot of attempts to get tattoos in Cali (since it is only an 11 hour drive away), and been tattooed by friends in Dallas.... Got tattooed by Chris Dettmer in Germany w/appt once, got a Cape Town tiny party tat last year, and for the past 4 years I've been traveling back and forth to Denmark getting tattooed by Henning. The first 2 appts were for my ribs and a little over a year apart. For just over 2 years, we have worked on my back, so the trips have been more frequent. I never thought twice about traveling to get tattooed. No matter how far it would be.1 point

In about 6 weeks I will be traveling back to Japan to complete my sleeve and although there are some amazing Tattooers here in Australia (especially in my hometown) I thought it'd be cool to have at least one piece done by a Japanese Tattooer. It started off as a one point while on a holiday, and then figured it may as well be completed by the same artist. Once its finished, I'll have travelled approximately... 45,000kms (27963 miles) and 3 trips for one sleeve lol. I probably could have been a bit more efficient with time but eh, its just how its worked out and each trip has been amazing so no complaints here. And I intend to make a trip to the SFO convention one of these years ;)1 point

Yep, and it didn't work either. The electro magnetic dual coil was around long before the O'Reily patent and even Samuel didn't use it as the case of O'reily vs. Getchel proved. In the case where Getchel was defending himself from O'Reily, Getchel proved that the patent that he was accused of profiting on was a tool that was neither effective or used by the public to apply tattoos. Samuel was interested in cornering the market on tattooing and was an amazing self promoter who ultimatly lost his case in court over the patent and the patent upon examination was somwewhat void to it being similiar and in effect no diferant than Edison's Papirograph pen in it's patent form. Non the less it was still the historical first patent of such an item, but to give credit where credit is due would be to say that Edison was the mastermind of our elaborate doorbell.1 point
