    best shops???

How about Mike Perfettos in Bensonhurst, Goldfields in SF, Kadillac Tattoo in Philadelphia, Crazy Eddies in Philadelphia, Tattoo Peters in Amsterdam, all great shops that have been around a long time and are crammed with tattoo history. R and D tattoo in Queens is floor to ceiling with hand painted NY style flash. These shops have been worked and are steeped in tattoo mojo. On a Monday Shamrock in Hollywood has Mark Mahoney, Freddy Negrete and Rick Walters, thats over 100 years of tattooing there and its a great lookin shop. Spotlight in Hollywood is another great shop with real character and a waiting room with 4 walls of hand painted Bob Roberts flash. Bert Grimms on the Pike R.I.P. was the benchmark for all tattoo shops and when I went in there I knew there was no way I was leavin without gettin tattooed.

    pinky yun...

Crazy it has been a whole year since Pinky has passed. First pic was taken at Dragon Tattoo in 1983, second in 2008 when State of Grace Convention was in San Jose. No matter how many times my boss told him he lives in Oregon, Pinky insisted the whole time he lives in Washington. RIP PINKY!

  7. Buying a king size print from one of your favorite artists, getting it framed properly, hanging it on your wall and taking two steps back. I´ve been staring at the original hanging by Marius´ station for hours while getting tattooed, so when he decided to make giclee prints of it I had to rape my wallet and buy one. Stoked!

  8. Me and my wife both have this same tattoo (same but different), because we always thought he looked a lot like a kewpie doll. Mine was done by Justin Dion and hers was done by Mario Desa. Of course I also got a hot stuff devil for him too because of his not so cute times. I really like that rib piece that Scott Sylvia did with hot stuff riding a panther and kewpie riding a white tiger. I thought that was really fun and traditional but still worked well with Japanese work. Obviously wouldn't work for the chest but there is a pretty cool hot stuff in this book wearing a kimono with some background that would be a good idea for one chest panel. If the book wasn't at the shop I just take a pic and post it. tattooflashbooks.com - Jerome "Tilt" McCulloch - Classic Flash 2: In 5 Bold Colors

    First tattoo

My first tattoo was a taz holding and axe and my name. The reason for the piece was I was a fireman and that was the department logo. I had a friend draw it and the guy who did it had only done a handful of tattoos before me. It was on my back and the only mistake (besides being a tax) was me putting my name under the tattoo. Not sure why I needed my name there, I guess I figured if I forgot it I could look at my back?????? Was young and dumb!!!! Good thing now is it's being covered up in a large piece.

I'm really digging Virtue Tattoo in Houston, TX right now, great set up, great art, great artists. Owned by Lana Gooding previously of Taylor Street Tattoo in Chicago. I had a Sailor Jerry Eagle done at virtue a couple of months ago, going to get a panther head and an anchor there in January. If you are in Houston check it out.

I know a couple of people who have been tattooed by him recently and it looks like his signature stuff still. http://maps.google.com/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=np&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=dave+lum+tattoo&fb=1&gl=us&hq=dave+lum+tattoo&hnear=0x5495082476f88863:0x10e0cf158aacbd08,Beaverton,+OR&cid=7572867145008337774

  16. We were all getting our hair cut at the barber shop down the street and he asked if we all "operate an ink gun". I said I beg your pardon. "Do you sling ink!" he insists. My boss just look at him and says "Yeah I tattoo." Then he changed the subject and we started talking about firearms.

    First tattoo

My first tattoo was done just after my 21st birthday. It was the Greek alphabet done in a band around my left bicep. It was done in an Hell's Angels parlour and my girlfriend at the time didn't want me to get it done. I was sat in the chair, about 30 minutes in when my girlfriend calls me up to tell me she's had a minor car accident. She heard the buzzing of the tattoo machine and forgot about her minor "ding" on the road. She didn't speak to me for a week after.

    Art thread.

@irezumi here's a great photo showing the scale of that tapestry, it's ridiculous. Plus the dude who made it is a bona-fide weirdo and that makes me like it even more. Knowing how something like that is made, it really blows my mind the scale of it.

  26. I took my lady friend out to Pican in downtown oakland a few nights ago for her birthday. We both got the Fried Chicken w/ white truffle honey sauce, and the dish came with Gouda mac and cheese... which was amazing. both dishes garnished with sides of whiskey beverages.

  28. The thing I hate is when I am in a public place with my son and someone asks me "when he is going to get his first tattoo?, ha ha!!!!! I want to be like wow you should try out for that redneck comedy tour you mouth breathing piece of shit, but i digress.

  29. It's the cross you bear. "Shawn... YOU of all people will appreciate THIS" (insert shitty tattoo photo here). It happens with strangers too. "When I get older, I'm going to look like YOU" (I always retort "What, a dorky manchild?") "I haven't gotten it YET, but (insert long drawn out story of a tattoo I don't care about).." "My cousin has this amazing tattoo that (insert tattoo that I don't care about)..." You just smile. If they SHOW you a tattoo, respond "yeah, that's a tattoo alright". if they ask your feedback, respond "yeah, that could totally work". That or do what I did at the bar the other night: "honestly, I could care less. So. you want a drink?"

  30. Got a picture message of a friends lame script tattoo on her foot yesterday labeled "Fresh Ink!" Why do people feel like since I have quite a few tattoos they all have to show me their little tattoos and expect me to be excited to see them? Lol

  34. I have matching tattoos down the backs of my arms for my sons. They are a dagger through a rose with a banner... and one says "Indiana" and the other says "Hunter" done by Juan Puente at 222... sometime in the late '90s. Here is the recent one for my baby girl who is a year and a half now... She totally looked like a kewpie when she was born... Artist is Josh Ford (Honorable Irons) at Lifetime Tattoo in Denver, CO
