Back when I started this thread I mentioned James Tex in the first post. He recently posted these backpieces on his website, and they made me want to mention him just one more time. Anyone want to join me for a trip to Calgary in the near future?2 points

I've been listening to ASAP Rocky a lot lately (note: not Aesop Rock). Interesting kid. He's from Harlem, but works with a producer from San Antonio (named Beautiful Lou) and is heavily influenced by Houston rap and DJ Screw.1 point

I've been going back to my roots and drinking a lot of stout lately, as the winter months close in. Now, Guinness is our best-known stout export. The truth is that it's a shadow of its former self - once they started pasteurising it and serving it hooked up to the lager coolers (extra cold) it stopped being the drink our fathers drank, and became some watered-down mass-market bastardisation. If you want to drink Guinness your best best is the stronger alcohol 'special' bottle which is made for the African market (Guinness is huge amongst Nigerians and the like). If you really want serious contemporary stout from Ireland then luckily there are more than a couple of craft offerings that will hit the spot. These are mostly classic dry Irish stouts, served at cellar temperture ideally. First up: Wrasslers XXX from the Porterhouse. Our London and NYC brethren will be able to try this in the Porterhouse Brew Co. pubs in their cities. Other than that it's available in bottles reasonably widely (perhaps even the U.S?). The 'Wrassler' name comes from the nickname of Michael Collins, an Irish revolutionary figure, who was a big stout drinker. Another good one is Dungarvan brewing company's Black Rock stout. Dungarvan is one of a new generation of breweries that was set up by a guy and his brother-in-law in conjunction with their wives. It's a little lighter and not as much of a syrupy mouth-feel as you'll get with some stronger stouts. But my favourite stout at the moment, an absolute stonker with 6% alcohol content, unusually high for an Irish stout, is Carlow Brewing Company's O'Hara's Leann Folainn (gaelic for 'wholesome brew' / 'wholesome stout'). A lot of people think this is the best craft beer which has been made in Ireland over the past number of years. Mostly the Dungarvan and Leann Folainn are only available in bottles. But from time to time you see various craft stouts from Irish breweries offered on tap in some pubs. Mostly they're hooked up to conventional taps (meaning they have nitro cannisters attached, and some people reckon that fundamentally changes the taste), but occassionally they'll be there on a keg and hand pump.1 point -

Not exactly a secret in European tattooing, but I've always though Hexa from Precious Tattoo in Finland is one of the most versatile tattooists I've come across. Seems to be able to do several styles to a high level. In an interview I read the explanation was that it's a small country and there was a need to be versatile to handle all kinds of clients. That said, the traditional stuff is my favourite ... A good bit of humour and the occult injected in there. Maybe a little like Deno? This has always been a favourite tattoo of mine (not sure why)-1 point

Unequal trade opportunity
Deb Yarian reacted to Ursula for a topic
@truejew the whole point was someone trying to trade a service they are not yet fully trained and experienced in for a service that someone has put years and years and years of their life into learning. Not an equal trade by far. Maybe Deb would trade tattoos for laser hair removal or tattoo removal but I bet if she did she's be trading to someone who has a legitimate business and not some random student that she doesn't know. I've traded my artwork for tattoos in the past, and those people seemed to be happy to accept or offer the trade. I would never offer to make someone's wedding dress in trade for tattoos because even though I can execute the task I haven't spent the last 10 years or more perfecting that skill.1 point -

Then you've come to the wrong place. As stated in the Tattoo Newbie Guidelines thread: Do not start threads asking about specific tattooing equipment or techniques, LST is not here to teach anyone how to tattoo. Ask your own tattooer, the next time you are getting tattooed. Maybe they'll answer you, maybe they won't. Do not start threads regarding closely guarded trade secrets - this will keep LST a much more welcoming place for everyone, tattooers and enthusiasts alike. Do not start threads asking questions about "breaking into the business" of tattooing. If you do see threads like that, flag them for mods and try to ignore them until they can be deleted. We want LST to be a place that artists feel welcome, too, and those types of threads do nothing to foster that type of environment. Thanks.1 point

Who is using what?
eisen777 reacted to Scott Sylvia for a topic
ok guys im going back and forth on this. first no one has done anything wrong yet . however we are on a slippery slop. what i don't want to have happen is open the tattooer only section and no one is on the rest of it. what MY intentions are in this is to take tattooing back from the douche bags like bob baxter who none of us would ever had heard of it wasn't for tattooing, then he throws it under the bus with published discussions on tattooings financial aspects. which in my world is no ones business but mine and my wifes. as for what people are tattooing with traditionally you get tattooed by them and look down. haha or buy a shit load of needles and when you don't like them give them to your co workers."i do this alot" 20 years and im still working it out.so what im looking for in this is a place for people to promote tattooing in a productive way that is positive towards tattooing. once again be patient and we will get a private part somehow in the mean time if you have touchy shit to talk about send it the person privately. thanks i hope this answers some stuff. i havent had much time to even get on the computer much. thanks scott1 point -

Even sharing info with real tattooers online bugs me. You want info? Pay up fool. Get tattooed or buy art or machines from people you respect and ask them questions. Maybe they'll give you a straight answer, maybe they won't .I have no desire to share info with who knows who. I've personally spent tens of thousands of dollars, travelled all over the states, been to Japan and Europe to get the info I was looking for. The Last thing I want to do is give info to some suck-ass with less than 10 years. IN! Pay Money and keep your ears open and your mouth shut!1 point -
