  3. I was running around the lake the other day (shirtless, duh) and OPD was posting outside of their cars drinking coffee and bullshitting (as always). As I was running by I couldnt help but notice that they were pointing at me like I was either: A: and ex-con B: they liked my tattoos C: they were into dudes, and thought I was hot. D: they were pointing at the hot chicks running behind me and didnt give a shit about me. Id like to think it was B/C/.

  5. I had an interesting experience this weekend just gone because I didn't have visual tattoos. I was dressed in a plain shirt and jacket, so I stood out like a sore thumb in rock club I was in. Everyone kept on eying me up until my friend called some people out on it. They then asked me if I knew anything about tattoos or if I was tough enough to have any. My response was to slowly take my shirt off to reveal my torso and back covered in tattoos all done by Stewart. Needless to say they were speechless. I just told them I was earning my visual spots, and not being a show of jackass trying to fit in with everyone else. Sorry if that was off topic. I do like visual tattoos but only if the person has tattoos in other areas. Otherwise I think there is too much blank skin around and they look like an attempt at getting attention. I'll get my forearms/hands/neck done when I retire and I have no more room left.

  6. I had a consultation with my artist this weekend and have to wait three weeks now to get the tattoo and it's killing me. Of course, it is my first so I have no idea about the pain. I have a feeling these weeks are going to crawl.

I know, because I have some. It's not white, just lighter than the black around it. How much lighter depends on the age of the ink and skill of the tattooer. I've done it a few times too, with varying degrees of design success, but I took the most recent photo off my blog last week after one too many " I'm gonna get this from my tattooer, what needles/technique/machines did you use?" emails. Nothing gets non-tattooers talking about their so-called technical and equipment knowledge like white-on-black, palm or micro tattoos in tricky places.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

A big part of my decision to go with Steve Byrne is his way of taking traditional designs that have been done thousands of times and making them fresh. Plus, I was surrounded by a truly incredible array of vintage and original flash and art from Higgs, Roberts, Malone, and Stell. Focusing on those images while I was going through 4.5 hours of heavy work took it to the next level = )

  18. I suppose it depends on whos available. The other factor is how much money I have. Theres not much demand for ageing overwieght rent boys in the runup to Christmas. September was good. I was tattooed 5 times that month. Mainly due to the London Tattoo Convention.

I think it runs along one of my favorite sayings.... "It's not what you wanted but it's exactly what you asked for" I have personal experience with this.

  21. I'm finding this thread quite interesting. When I started getting tattooed I was not particularly well informed, but I had a good idea of what I wanted. I started with my inner-forearms. I figured, if I'm getting these cool tattoos why shouldn't other people get to enjoy them as well? I work as a carpenter, so that is not a field where people judge you too harshly on appearance, more on competence. Reading about the warped tour body suit made me laugh. I'm not there at all, in fact if I wear a hoodie I appear un-tattooed. But in reading and looking at tattooed folk I've started working my way up, gives a more balanced look. Just got my chest done, you can't see that one at all with a t-shirt on. So I'm starting to see the appeal of semi private tattoos as well.

    Zippy comebacks!

I always get the same questions... Q: Do they hurt? A: Only when my mom sees them. Q: Where is the worst place to get tattooed? A: Prison Q: Why would you go do and do that to yourself? A: The same reason you wouldn't thats just a few.....

  24. About my tattoo experiences with Nick Colella (got two pieces of Dietzel flash) and Ron Henry Wells (snake and rose) this weekend, I would have to say that it was much like OaktownFunk's. Being a part of the convention and seeing all those tattooers and good people visiting the booths while getting tattooed was awesome. I'd say it was a great first time at the SFO convention, but I wish I would have stayed longer. Also, It was very rewarding, finally getting a Wells tattoo; I've wanted one since I first saw his work a few years ago. Thanks for the amazing tattoos, fellas.

  25. Tim was fully booked at the London convention recently. Also he took appointments at Frith Street. Obviously he got booked solid fairly quickly, but the moral to the story is not to presume. Whoever you want to get tattooed by, it's often better to ask or to call whatever shop you want to get tattooed at. It's surprising how quickly you can get an accurate answer that way. Weeks of speculation on the internet doesn't help anyone, it just passes the time...

    Itchy tattoo?

Just sit and talk shit all day. I've never had an itchy tattoo, so I'm going to put it down to that being why, as it's basically all I do.

  30. when i joined i almost expected a tattooer's only section actually, was surprised when i noticed that there wasn't. i think it'd be good, even if its simply for advertising machines for sale etc

  31. i agree...we need a tattooers only section!!! too much info already out there for civilians!

    Who is using what?

Is there a section for tattooers only for info like this. another pet peeve is clients that are no it alls. They don't need to know what we use or where we get it from. As long as they are happy with the results.
