    Dumb Hipster Tattoos

Hey I love Joy Division and I was around when they first hit the scene (that doesn't qualify for being a hipster but it probobly qualifies for a hip replacement in a few years).

  10. @cfgsteak, YES! I love seeing big tattoos on here. Can we classify that as inspirational? Does that make me sound lame? @BigAl, gotta love those apprentice tattoos. @ChrisM, fuck yeah! To have Lehi basically cover the entire front of your arm.. shit.

    Occupy Wall Street

Yeah, talk about going from 'Freedom Riders' to 'Free-Riders.' Honestly, to be frank, and I mean no offense to anyone, but feels that "'Occupy Wall Street' is playing Checkers, while the 'Tea Party' is playing Chess."* *It's fun to call the Tea Party = Tea Baggers, etc...but they moved the Right, they swung elections (to be won and lost), dominated the debate over everything doing with fiscal issues, etc. I think it's based off of the fact they were 'created' by out of office Republicans operatives (Dick Army, etc.), basically had their own 'News' Channel (at least until just recently), and had one issue that was bigger than themselves: 'Government is the Problem'.....hmmmm....sounds familar. 2012 is theirs to lose, which probably means they will, no one 'snatches defeat from the jaws of victory' like the Right. I'm betting more on that then OWS swaying 2012 congressional or presidential elections. edit: Found this article by Matt Taibbi, RollingStone, that gives good advice to those at OWS:

I hate myself every day, just for a little bit. That said... I don't think he was saying Joy Division (whom I love) is hipstery, just that people only pretend to like them because you're s'posed to. Or maybe I misunderstood, too. I was too busy listening to Joy Division to read into it much. Though one of my fiance's super politically correct friends won't listen to Joy Division because of where the name of the band comes from. Though she listens to Blondie. Go figure.

  16. I had my side line work done yesterday...so I experienced all kinds of new pain...ribs are really painful. Pelvic bone...PAINFUL. What was done on my butt hurt, not too bad though. Upper ribs under my arm was brutal. What was done on my stomach was crazy too...the whole thing hurt basically except the fat around my waist (first time ever I am glad I cant seem to lose the "love handles"). But the area by my nipple...excruciating. I seriously thought I might start crying. Cant wait to go back to have it colored. :D

With all the shops and people not having money I'll be happy if a taz comes in the door..lol. Honestly if someone has an idea that may not make for a good tattoo I enjoy helping them make it in to something that will stand the test of time.

  27. Yeah Rory, your comments are interesting too. It didnt hurt me to bad on the fatty parts near my waist...easiest area of the day. The funny thing for me was, it hurt like hell when I was on my back...but wasn't too bad when I was on my side or my stomach... the pain associated with being tattooed is weird.

  28. The observation about right side of the body versus left side of the body is interesting - I suspect it comes down to, as you say, how you feel about it. It reminded me that when I was getting my back done I had this bizarre thing where I was convinced that (lying on my stomach) it didn't feel as sore if I had my head turned to the right - like, arms folded, my left cheek on the mat and I'm looking to my right. When I turned to the left it felt more uncomfortable. I'm sure it was totally in my mind. Another poster mentioned it feeling better when fattier areas were tattooed. For me I've always felt the opposite, that there is less stretching / messing around when going over smoother, leaner parts of the body where the skin is taut - and consequently it goes quicker?

    Occupy Wall Street

Yeah, I imagine if he'd been there awhile (and isn't a plant from that website), he'd have had time to do some research on why he was there in the first place and delivered the falcon punch question to the British "reporter". Jello has been and will always be, one of my great heroes. My friend had "No More Cocoons" on vinyl in '87 and we listened to it non-stop = )

    Traveling for a shop?

Travelling to Frith St from North Wales seems like a very reasonable distance for something so important, and given that I have prime retail space saved for Juan Puente and Thomas Hooper, it hardly seems like much hassle at all. Getting work from those two guys is going to be a far bigger commitment. The only irritating part is that until a few years ago, my wife and I lived in south-east London and didn't make proper use of our locality! I worked a 10min walk from both The Family Business and Into You. Je ne regrette rien.

    Traveling for a shop?

Alanna- I use Porter every year going from Toronto to Chicago. Last time I flew was a little after the Toronto tattoo convention (I think). There was a dude on the plane who had fresh tattoos on both hands (a skull on one, a lady head on the other). So looks like a few people have the same idea as you, in a way. Porter is cool, all the free coffee and brownies you want in the airport, and on the plane they serve little cans of steam whistle beer.

  46. It's courious to me that anyone would be suprised by spiritual and religious tattoos being part of the tattoo world. It is, it's place of origin. Tattooing did not start ouit as a political tool, nor a purely decorative one. It is in it's essence a way of altering the body to represent the inner life's changes. or as in "Right of Passage Rituals" Passage from one age to the next from childhood to adulthood, from death of a loved one,to moving on passed the mourning stage. It has to do with totemic practices where there is a beilieved passage of the spirits of a Slain enemy or a loved ones energy to the bearer. Get a tattoo like UNcle Bill's? well that is totemism in a modern form without the concious idea that you are calling forth Uncle Bill's energy his "power"in you when you wear this mark. All great religious forms have had rituals inwhich there is blood letting for instance the Roman Catholic Confirmation has a small slap on the face by the Bishop to confirm you into adulthood and commitment to the church-- IN the old practice this would have been a cut to your face producing blood. "killing of the old self to release the new born soul!" It is the death and resurection and so are all tattoos a kin to this idea. So on and so on Tattooing has always been the tool of the Shaman -- a tool in magical service to the "HEALING" process of the individual. Early Christians Like the "Coptics" when persecuted by the Romans; and I mean sent to the Lions for sport. They had to have a small crucifix tattooed on the inside of their left wrists --this meant they could enter the secret meetings in hidden places -- and could not be Romans. This practice still exists today. Most pilgrams to the holy lands of the world collect tattoos as proof they were there. In oour culture there are no clear cut rituals so tattooing reaches into the place of our deepest connection with the fears and desires of mankind to his spiritual self. Athiest or no this is a place where we all wonder the deppest thoughts of why we are here? what is purpose? what happens after death? What is love? Although you may not be aware of its origin --I'd say most all images relate to this process! Prhaps Not specifically but in the act of Doing or collecting a tattoo you are doing and collecting a spiritual amulet a way of saying you are protected you are Human and you are Mortal. Anyway that's my two cents! Shotsie
