  1. Yesterday I drove up to see Erik Von Bartholomaus. I cannot recommend getting tattooed by him enough, I had an awesome time, some adventure, and a ton of great stories (esp about the tarot deck and Dan H.) and amazing art all over the place- it was a great way to spend the day

  4. So a few months ago I started noticing this weird hipster trend of posting photos of oneself with a nosebleed. It was all over the social networking sites. Just random bleeding hipsters. I thought it might be a cocaine reference, but it turned out that hipsters are just fucking stupid.

  5. This pic is courtesy of East Tattoo, by way of facebook. Got my dates for next sessions... One in a coupe of weeks and one at the beginning of November. Should bring it close to done if I can sit for full days again.

  6. @jade1955, @sleepy mel, Stoney called it "a bit of the old come-back". We put a few flakes of it in the black ink. Thanks guys, but I'm trying to maintain a reputation as a tough-guy asshole. You guys are ruining it for me.

  10. I've known Matt for a good few years now and as much as I like him, I think it's a shame that he's becoming the 'spokesperson' for tattooed people. Part of me is pleased for him that he's found a way to make a living as a mostly respected academic/writer, even with visible tattoos. But I don't want a spokesperson, especially one who solely views the world from the halls of academe or maybe the fetish club. While I enjoy and agree with most of his writing, I can't help feeling I read it all somewhere before... maybe 15-20 years ago in TattooTime or International Tattoo Art when Shaw was editing. Ed Hardy already proved to the art world that tattooing wasn't just for sailors and whores. In an age of high-rating reality shows about tattooing with celebrity tattooers I don't think we need to justify tattooing to the 'mainstream' anymore. No matter how well written or researched it may be. Some of us want to take tattooing back underground, some of us want to take the high-profile ball and run with it. Whatever people do, it's gotta be more interesting than regurgitating the same tired articles. What's next? "Women can be tattooers too?" Yawn. As a side note, Mario Desa said (via twitter) recently "Those who call tattooing 'fine art' know nothing abut either."

  14. I bought this on iTunes last week. I think it was really cool and loved seeing all the work and learning more about the man and his experiences. I can't believe for years, before being tattooed, I was so anal and hung up on the purity of traditional Japanese tattoos, that when I learned about him, I lumped him into the same category as the random guy who worked at the random corner shop who did a really awful bastardized version of what they thought Japanese was supposed to be. Talk about being uneducated. Luckily I learned the error of my ways fast, and can see his work for what it is, so I can enjoy things like this documentary and try to educate my friends who only know him in regards to Christian Audigier (sp?). On that note his show at Fort Mason in SF was an eye opener too.

They have a pretty great website. Someone I'm not sure if it's them made a movie by the same name or something similar. They had a bike race (of course) to celebrate the opening or raise funds or something and the company I worked for sponsored it. I created a hand made messenger bag that said 'look at this fucking hipster' in huge letters. Best part, when closed up and on your back all you can see is "FUCKING HIPSTER" so the asshole who won it gets to ride around letting everyone know exactly what he/she is. In other news, hipsters are still retarded! Here's proof!

Got this one 6/7 months ago from Steve Vinall at The Family Business. No real meaning behind it, just something that settled in my mind after moving to London last October.

  28. Hello, I found this pretty cool stop motion video in three parts on youtube for a half sleeve 'nerd' tattoo described as follows: *I didn't want to just do a one-off thread, so thought to just title it 'Tattoos on Video' so other people might want to post similar videos, if they like. I am not sure, but I do not think it has any real 'how-to' applications to it. If so, apologies and please feel free to remove.

  29. So the 'zine itself (I think it's #7 and #8) was classified as legally obscene as an entire work. if the pages are removed, they're not individually obscene. I'm not sure if it's Florida only or nationwide.

HAHAHA I could not stop laughing at all the pics on that link. I don't think that trend has really hit full force here, and I hope that it stays that way lol. Then again I try to stay out of the downtown as much as possible. I like the serenity of the country.

  36. What the fuck is wrong with people?!!?!??! I bet if some famous painter has done those they'd be considered masterpieces to be cherished for generations. The main thing I hate about being an artist, is the fucking art scene. Seriously seeing things like this makes me so angry I can't express it. How can this guy get sent to jail and someone like R.Crumb isn't? On the same note y'all should watch the movies "Who The Fuck Is Jackson Pollack" and "My Kid Could Draw That", that is if you want to spend the rest of the day full of hate for art snobs like the people who put this guy down. I like the paintings posted and I'd have no problem hanging them in my house.

    Full Back Piece Thread

These are by Horitsune II from Osaka Japan. The first is on his pupil Miyazo and the second is on tattooer Rob Admiraal (The piece on the lady is one of Robs' clients/his work) ^^ So friggin good!!! I tried to find a better photo of Robs' backpiece, but good luck finding much if any of Horitsune IIs' work online. There is a series of videos though called 'Onko Chishin' and are well worth checking out, so do it ;)

    First tattoo

My first was last October, at the age of 42, and was a design I'd had in mind for about ten years. I figured if I still wanted it after that long, I should go ahead and get it. It was done by Crow Grando, who was then working at Beelistic Tattoos in Cincinnati. That one has spawned three more in just under a year, and I'm sure more are to come, though I have no designs in mind for the immediate future....

I dont have a pic. I was 15 and in a group home. A guy had needle melted into a piece of plastic and some ink from a pen. I wanted a Wu-Tang logo and he poked it in my arm while we sat on my bed.
