  2. Here is a pic of my arm ditch tattoo done by Mario Desa on the 11th September. All nicely healed in 12 days. Same healing regime usual wash twice daily. Dab with paper towel and let air dry for 20 minutes before a very thin application of Aquaphor. For the first week I applied a lightwieght Tubinette tubular bandage. It's very thin and allows plenty of air to the fresh tattoo and keeps other parts of the arm and sweat away from the tattoo. All you have to remember, when changing the bandage, is to soak it for a few minutes during the the first few days. I also live with 5 cats. So its keeps cat hairs away from the fresh tattoo. Believe me cats hairs get everywhere.

  8. I've slept on Troy's couch many times and I have to tell you that one of my favorite things about staying with Troy is all the epic shows he has recorded on his TV box. It's like browsing through the wildest documentaries or shows on aliens, drugs, history or anything taboo. That man has great taste

  10. Hi! I'm Lala (Lauri), and I'm Apprenticing at Internal Instincts Tattoo Studio in El Sobrante, CA. I've been there just over a year and started tattooing (friends and a few walk-in's) in the shop about 6 months ago. I am lucky enough to be learning from two amazing artists with a huge & diverse amount of experience & knowledge to share. I first joined LST Forum in July, 2011, just before plans for my September 10th wedding picked up. I found myself having to focus only on wedding stuff when I was not at the shop, until tonite, when I was looking at some reviews of machines and saw the "Spaulding-Rogers" posts here. I forgot that I really liked this site, the philosophy/mission and the vibe of it. Good stuff! I live on the quaint island of Alameda, just outside of SF, an area rich in amazing tattooers and tattoo history; a continual reminder of my small place in this industry and how hard I have to work to make any sort of a mark as a tattooer here. Tattoos have been something of an obsession of mine since the day, shortly after my birth, that my (already tattooed) Papa came home with my name in a heart on his left bicep. As soon as I was old enough to understand what it was, I loved it and I loved what is proclaimed to the world - I was so proud of that tattoo! I'm into vintage & old school tattoo flash, pin-ups, drawing, tattooing & tattoo history, music, traveling. I'm trying to improve my lettering constantly. When I'm not drawing or cleaning the shop. I'm a gypsy/burlesque dancer/costumier/knitting fool/bibliophile. I love my dog & cat & most of all, my handsome new husband. :) Looking forward to great discussions and learning more about the online, local & global tattoo communities. Glad to be here, hope to make some friends & enjoy the forum! ~Lala

    Hello from Bangkok!

Welcome. I spent three months in Thailand, and at least a month of it was in Bangkok. I love it there, but it is not a great place to get tattooed. It is a great place to eat. Enjoy it while you are there.

  21. I ended up at Whole Foods tonight and bought a bunch of different truffle cheese; a tart goat with truffles, a Pecorino romano with truffles and a super pungent pork salami with... yeah... truffles. Let the charcuterie commence. (that Im eating them in the basement of a bar isn't lost on me)

    Bay area meet up?

I'm a fucking idiot, that's for sure... The hipstamatic app is good for taking fanzy-schmanzy pictures in daylight, but at a dimly lit restaurant....neh, not so much. Tried to fix it as much as I could by adjusting the contrast, but the picture still turned out pretty fucking terrible. Sorry guys. I saw steve take a picture or two while we were at the table though, so maybe he's got some better ones. Awesome meeting ya'll by the way! And thanks to Scott for suggesting the Pot Roast, and thanks to Hogg for assuring me I wouldn't get high from eating it.

  26. Ron Henry Wells (hedid a hand of mysteries on me)...i think you guys know if him but people esp in New England really need to learn whats up. Ollie Street by Street, Blog by Blog. he doesn't post a lot of his tattoos since he is picky and is lazy about his blog. But the guy is simple, clean and tattoos damn well. I enjoy his style. He did a woman face on me that's IMO close to perfect.

  28. Not a Dandy Warhol fan but funny enough did see them in concert in Portland in 1995. I only spent one year of high school in Portland and one in Seattle. But the music scene definitely drew me toward Portland. I have to say that I know a lot of people who fancy themselves photographers and none of them are making very much money because every asshole with an $80 digital camera is now a photographer and Every asshole with a computer is a graphic designer. I don't know your friends work, but what I do know is there are a lot of people willing to work for next to nothing and often time volunteer their work for free and people looking for this work know that and just will go with the free work, despite the quality. Gee what other craft is like that? Tattoing is different than other fields in the sense that most feel you have to earn the right to tattoo by paying your dues, regardless of natural talent in art. Skipping this step, depraves you of a lot of insight to running a tattoo shop that aren't related to art. Getting tattooed was a way to learn about the industry and be present to some important conversations. Don't believe me go watch the Dringenberg Interview on the home page.

  29. Haha, did you guys look in the mirror and cry while the tattooer said, "do you love it?"? I'm kidding, I think it's really lovely. When I get married, my husband is going to get a huge backpiece of my face, with the words "Mel Noir is a god to you cretins"... okay, no one would really agree to that.

  30. Thanks Mel. My wife got a black and grey rose with my name on it a couple of months later, by the same artist. How Miami Ink is that.

  31. I've bought tickets for the Saturday. Last years convention was a bit special on a personal level. I got a girls name tattooed on me for the first time. My wifes name a heart and swallow tattooed by Emiliano Liberatori. I know it's supposed to be the kiss of death but after 36 years I thought fuck it. It was quite a fleeting visit for me last year but as it was on the first day. But from what I saw it looked pretty amazing. I am going back there this year with the missus. We are both getting tattooed in the week running up by a couple of artists that will be at the convention. I am really looking forward to it.
