  3. If you love tattoos you'll probably be covered in them, or atleast have the desire to be. I'm not even going to comment on what you said about "artist with no tats is the stronger person" "Serenity now!" as Frank Costanza would say...

  5. Did you read the entire thread @LilMountain ?? And please be humble... Quotes like "I can't believe so many people here are so cliche-ish that they demand a tattooer conform to a stereotype" won't get you far here. Have you tried to understand why the majority of artists and enthusiasts here feel that tattooers should be tattooed, or was your mind made up before you clicked on the thread? Oh, and comparing tattoo artists to plastic surgeons or photographers is just downright silly if you ask me...

    First tattoo

My first tattoo was the black eisturzende neubauten stick man. my friend james did it in our friends garage. it was done with a tattoo machine but the needle was 5 sewing needles soldered onto a needle bar. all lined and shaded with that. it was probably 1992/93 i'd guess. then in 1993 i got all the chrome doodads and flames added by matthew wojciechowski. and although you cant tell from my crappy phone pic that tattoo and the sleeve i have from matthew are both almost 20 years old and both are so well tattooed that they look like they were done last week. I had very little interest in tattoos til i saw what matthew was doing.

  8. Lets see if this works..... I have been thinking a lot about some conversations I've been having with several tattooers around the first tattoo they tattooed on a paying customer and seen some of their pictures.....so lets hear them and if you've got pics and wouldn't mind please share

  9. same thing I said to MsRad. Start small, try the safety course. I've usually got people up and running in a few days for the basics. It is cheaper than most people think if you start with a small, older bike. just remember dont skip on the gear. Dress for the crash not for style.

  10. Frank Carter! Sure, he's gotten tons of recognition as the former lead singer of Gallows, but everyone might not be familiar with his tattooing. Works alongside @Valerie Vargas and @Stewart Robson at Frith Street from time to time. Check out his website: Journal - frankxcarter.com

  11. That is a terrible analogy. You are related something like tattooing (a personal choice) to something like surgery (a medical need). Of course a surgeon is going to get surgery if he or she needs it. BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN THEIR 'CRAFT'. If someone believes in putting needle to skin and permanently marking people with images of pure humanity, if they truly believe in it, he or she will commit to it and live by that belief by getting tattoos.

  12. For my one year anniversary I got the phrase "Feel No Cold" which part of the Native American benediction at my wedding, the full line was "Now you will feel no cold for each of you will be warmth to the other" (My wife got "Feel No Rain" which was from the next line)

Loved this episode. And man, those bonji on Troy's neck are so goddamned nice. Anyone know who did them? Aside to @Kev: nice lift! My max DL was 315, which was twice my body weight, but any time I'd pull above a certain weight, I'd round my lower back, so I gave 'em up. But trust me when I say that I know exactly how your back is feeling.

  15. I ended up at the 'Tattoo the World' release last night in NYC. I've commented a few times on other social networking posts, but... it's surreal to be the most visibly tattooed person at an Ed Hardy event. They had some of his art on display but no copies of the film. Which was weird for a release event!

when is Whitmore coming to town?? are you going? that could be a potential hang out session. i listened to Dag Nasty earlier, and currently am also stuck on Touché Amoré's latest album (Parting the Seas between Brightness and Me), i think because it's so fitting to all the change going on in my life right now.

  18. I don't take personal offense when people use slang terms I just kind of use it as a barometer for how in the loop a person is. Two people joking around in the shop might say "ready to do some tatzaps" and the other might respond "slinging ink all day long" and i know they are joking having a good time. However if some guy comes in and wants to show me his sweet tatz that his bro who has his own tat gun and ask how much it would cost him to get sleeved cause he bro would do it for $100, then that is annoying.

  19. if you do want to learn to ride just take one of the safety courses. They usually teach you on 100cc-200cc bikes, and everyone tells me they are pretty damn good (and cheap!) at least here in NJ. As for a first bike I would check out craigslist for a older 70s-80s Yama/Kawi standard as they are user friendly and CHEAP! Plus if you drop it (which almost everyone does) you will not cry at replacing anything. Rebels are nice as well, but a bit heavy. I personally prefer motards (dirt bikes w. street tires) as they are light, cheap to fix, and very very durable.

  20. Had a growing interest in bikes for a while now but never know how/where to start, and never matters anyway because I'm always dumping cash somewhere else! Sooner or later I'll make my buddy Todd teach me how to ride.. 'til then, I'll just keep ogling bikes and watching SOA..

I wish I could be on the Canadian cash cab! I take a lot of cabs when I'm in Toronto so maybe one day! You guys lifting weights are intense! You're doing more than twice my body weight, I can't even imagine picking up something that heavy, I'd be one of those 'lady weightlifter throws up' videos on YouTube if I tried hahahaha. But yeah, the latest installments of the show have been awesome. It's rad to learn about tattooers that I've never heard of, or heard the name but never seen their work. It's cool to see that a lot of these guys are seem like rad dudes too. The Grime one really changed my view of him, in a good way.

Thanks ya'll; maybe it's time to start a weightlifting thread in the RC section. I know there's a exercise/fitness thread, but I think people would get bored with convo on reps, various training structures, and lift techniques = )

  25. All this talk of surgeons made me want to say two things A) if you think doing a tattoo is the same as doing surgery you are fucking stupid. B) yes I would be more comfortable getting a nose job from someone who's had one them selves, however you can't learn about surgery by having it done on you since you're not awake during the part that's going to teach you something. Now can someone please start or bring back some of the threads that are actually worth reading? Sick of logging on everyday and seeing 6 new 'I'm new here' threads and nothing else.

  26. I completely agree with @gougetheeyes and Stewart articulated it perfect. If you live the craft and respect everything involved with it, as a tattooer you would want to be tattooed. For learning, supporting tradition and respect. To compare a surgeon and tattooer is just retarded.

  27. I really prefer the tattoo style portraits and i think there is some really clever artists doing them at the moment, here is a couple I've come across that I'm particualalry fond of. The first is straight up traditional by Mitch 13, the second is a really cool mix of of styles by Shaun Topper

  30. I thought you could get the DVD on the site.. guess not. I went to a screening in LA last year and the small theater was about half full. He did a little Q+A at the end, which was pretty awesome even though most people were asking kind of inane questions. I hung around because I decided, "I will meet Ed Hardy," which I did and was probably super awkward about it. Then I saw Bob Roberts and hurried out the door..

    First tattoo

this might be my first post, been lurking for a bit. my first tattoo was a few years ago. my lady paid for it for my birthday. hurt pretty good, still didn't get the whole tattoo thing after getting this one, i got one more because of some coaxing from my brother...after that one...i'm pretty addicted to the whole experience. i think i've been lucky to get work done from guys who are nice dudes, personable and make the whole experience really unique.

  48. this is pretty simple in the act of self promoting you publish your stuff and it is public domain. i dont mean in a legal way but your putting it out there for people to see. this business is full of no talent ass clowns who search hi and low for influences to print off the computer and trace.. haha. as for flash thats the whole point. cant get pissed if someone sucks at doing your designs be glad you dont. you paint them to sell that s the whole deal. now if you look at someones design and try to copy it you are ripping it off, if you look at it and it inspires you to draw eagles all day thats influenced. we are sponges you cant help look at eds eagles and not love the way the wings have tension and try to recreate that energy but not line for line, thats just not right. finally just learn how to draw it stay up all night chain smoke get drunk listen to tom waits bone machine and dig in and learn how malone did it or how ed makes it look easy its up to you and fuck everyone else......much love scott
