  2. I ended up at the 'Tattoo the World' release last night in NYC. I've commented a few times on other social networking posts, but... it's surreal to be the most visibly tattooed person at an Ed Hardy event. They had some of his art on display but no copies of the film. Which was weird for a release event!

  3. I thought you could get the DVD on the site.. guess not. I went to a screening in LA last year and the small theater was about half full. He did a little Q+A at the end, which was pretty awesome even though most people were asking kind of inane questions. I hung around because I decided, "I will meet Ed Hardy," which I did and was probably super awkward about it. Then I saw Bob Roberts and hurried out the door..

  11. Too bad you missed it, let's just say that I could do a better job left handed. (I'm right handed, I am not a tattoo artist, hell I can't even draw)

  12. Got this a couple weeks ago from Justin at Blacklist Tattoo in Portland. In a little over a week I should have another new tattoo to post and then three days after that I am getting my back piece lined and shaded.

  13. True story. Tattooing clothing brands on yourself or a company name is a whole other issue that has more to do with the frantic materialism that is ingrained in our society.. and while I'd say forehead tattoos are not my thing and I usually think they're a pretty bad choice, it doesn't mean everyone with their face or forehead tattooed has mental problems. Definitely questionable! But not always insane.. except that hello kitty guy. Looks like he might decapitate you.

  15. That is BA! Thanks for the treat. Can't help but love a tattoo you can see from across the room and know what it is but that can be seen from across the street, very cool. All said and done, it's the skill, pigment and the care of the artist's that tattoo "for the long run" e.g. those whom, with the foresight and forethought, that tattoo with longevity in mind and not a pic for the portfolio. This is to say that, when someone enters into your establishment and a tattoo you did 21 plus years ago is still holding well in pigment and they are there for another tattoo and not a "renewal" then you have validation that you have been doing "true tattooing in it's intended form" for those 21 plus years. Dye lotts and maintaining proper pigments is a major key in the answer to the question posed here as longevity is the goal. I think we all can admit to ourselves that if you do a color portrait with a dozen shades of this and another dozen of that and still another dozen shades of another color until you have forty caps of ink from varying suppliers then you can expect a somewhat tye dye effect in the long run of the life of the tattoo and the smile on the customer, ha! Mixing down the individual color and creating multiple shades from the same "tried and true" color lott's should yield the best results for longevity sake. I started maintaining my "dye lotts" in the early 80's and still have pigments I stocked from back when and what started me on that road was when I had read George Burchetts memoirs where he spoke of the difficulty he had in searching and collecting "ink" in a day and age where most if not all of what you could obtain was of quill pen "ink" variety, it almost begs the question of "what" he used when he tattooed the Queen out of her Doctors"surgery" as he called it. A fine example of obtaining good pigment in more recent times would be when "tribal" came to be so popular in the USA, simple bold black.....it was like everybody was stumped for finding something so simple and I was one of those spending loads on what some claimed was the best, I threw out several tubbs of stuff I had good money in and reworked for free what boomeranged back while experimenting, ha! Truth had it that pitch black was always around all along, it just took some mixing to create something you would never use for detail work as it needs to be at that "stain" value. Anyhow, I always bear in mind the longevity of what I do whether portrait or Pegasus, makes for good rep return business and ultimately is what should be considered "proper" in tattooing for the sake of the trade.

    First tattoo

this might be my first post, been lurking for a bit. my first tattoo was a few years ago. my lady paid for it for my birthday. hurt pretty good, still didn't get the whole tattoo thing after getting this one, i got one more because of some coaxing from my brother...after that one...i'm pretty addicted to the whole experience. i think i've been lucky to get work done from guys who are nice dudes, personable and make the whole experience really unique.

    Sons of Anarchy

@MsRad, did you find out how to watch episodes yet? If I had patience for "computer stuff" like most of my friends I could tell you.. The white shoes and baggy jeans bugged me at first, too, but I can appreciate characters that aren't just carbon copies of what the general public thinks of "bikers." Also, Katey Sagal is incredible and in my mind kind of rivals Edie Falco for her role as Carmela. Also, I like Tara, fart face be damned. I remember her from a couple episodes of Mad Men.. weird face but I appreciate that she's interesting looking. ALSO, Opey's wife (first one) was on Six Feet Under as Claire's art school buddy so it was kind of hilarious watching all of that right after SOA. (Catchin' up on a lot of TV here..)

ADD runs deep in that shop. I have a dagger on my forearm from regino gonzales - appointment was for 8pm. we didn't start tattooing until about 11pm; finished at 2:30 in the morning. troy was there - playing that same spoken word rant. i was intimidated by dude at first but eventually he warmed up once the conversation veered to kettlebells, deadlifts and beer. my kinda dude.

  23. as an observation to slang and/or jargon, it used to be a way of communication that allowed you to identify "like minded" individuals and had a relevance to creating something outside of the mainstream. now as mass culture becomes a giant homogenized cluster of what people think is cool and rebellious is just the newest marketing trend. everyone has t-shirts with swirly designs and crosses that are purposely mis-printed and faded to imply that its somehow unique and different. i swear i've seen dudes who are old enough to have grand kids wearing these things. too many people are trying to invent cool new phrases to try and push out beyond this influx of mass coolness. its just a matter of time before people start adding "zilla" or "shiz" to things and saying phrases like "that dude is an inkzilla" or mashing together other overused catchy sounding words. so just remember, all the cool folks are the ones that aren't trying to be anything other than themselves.

  24. I recently had a young lady make fun of the awesome eagle on my chest. She also said that people with tattoos just get them to make up for their lack of personality. I told her to get the fuck out of my apartment.

  27. The ditch was definitely one of the the harder spots to heal. I basically didn't bend my arms for a few days each time. All arm movements were made from the shoulder, which as a bartender looked pretty silly.
