  3. they should've gone directly across the street to Richard Stell and Matthew wojciechowski. I started tattooing in the early/mid 90's in Houston I spent some time in Dragon mikes shop and remeber it well but i cannot remember anything about dragon mike the man. I actually worked with Tiger John for a little while at Texas Tattoo Emporium which is the building next door to the building that dragon mikes was in. to get back on topic of the thread, prisoners don't have the luxury of stencils either. also i suspect they planted that VCR in the trash.

  4. He's not a prison tattooer. The person getting the tattoo is not a con. Prison tattooers do not have the luxury of wandering around shops or finding disgarded VCRs, when gathering parts to build their machines. It's tattooed in a park. I assume Scott Cambell is not using prison type pigment. It dosn't look like a prison tattoo. But it does look like a load of pretentious tosh. Watching a tattooing sequence from the "The Mark of Cain" is far more interesting.

  6. Marcus Kuhn, Jason Goldberg, & Katja Opel Also Scott doesn't actually charge everyone $300 an hour with a 1k minimum, but telling people that does a really good job of keeping tire-kickers and time-wasters at bay. I have a bunch of friends that have tattoos from Scott as well as having a pretty nice one myself, nobody I know of paid a grand. Not to say he probaby didn't charge Marc Jacobs or Courtney love that rate, but I mean, why wouldn't you?

    Tattoo age on VBS

ADD runs deep in that shop. I have a dagger on my forearm from regino gonzales - appointment was for 8pm. we didn't start tattooing until about 11pm; finished at 2:30 in the morning. troy was there - playing that same spoken word rant. i was intimidated by dude at first but eventually he warmed up once the conversation veered to kettlebells, deadlifts and beer. my kinda dude.

    First tattoo

First tattoo was "RISE ABOVE" on my ankles. It was done by a Sureño who worked in the Applebee's kitchen while I was a host. Its obviously a Black Flag tattoo. I was also wearing a Black Flag shirt. I was 17 and stupid. Oh, it was in his studio apartment and he smoked the biggest fucking joint I have ever seen outside of the Pantera Videos before he started as well. I mean, if you are going to get a Black Flag tattoo... thats how it should be done.

  10. I was lucky enough to score a last minute cancellation with Valerie Vargas at Frith Street Tattoo on Monday. The design is a 1920s flapper girl that Valerie drew up on the spot for me. Valerie is a genius! I am so unbelievably thrilled with how it came out. Looking a bit gross at the moment, will post another pic once healed.

  15. The post by Shannon reminded me of one aspect I forgot. If Scott has pictures of him hanging with movie stars and stuff in his blog, automatically all the people who want to tattoo will think its cool. Meaning this video. Vice magazine people and such. Who are most likely rich and middle class kids. (edit. I mean of course all the people who want to tattoo and think he is cool etc etc.) And I agree with Shannon. There is nothing cool about being related to prison. Some of my old friends have been in prison and I see these kinda guys from time to time. I dont want to hang with them. They are like this. Everything is on the edge. Not my kinda scene.

  16. I was thinking the same thing about the vcr, seems a little too perfect. I do dig the tattoo, though, in spite of the questionable conditions and/or motivations.

    Bay area meet up?

Would it be an idea to maybe send out an "LST anniversary get together" email to forum members in case not everyone sees this thread?

  22. I find myself feeling the same way about a lot of Scott Campbell-related things. The fact that he charges $300 an hour is insane to me, but then again, he doesn't seem to be hurting for business, so I guess he wins. I'd read a few years back that he had a $1000 minimum, but I'm not sure that was true. Speaking of money to burn, he's created several pieces of art using sheets of US currency. Seems gauche to me, but again, I read about it in numerous places, so he's getting the press he wanted. He also did artwork for Camel Cigarettes, which is not that cool to me, but seemed to garner him a lot of notoriety. And while part of me thinks that he's an asshole for making this video--and tattooing someone on a nasty ass bench under conditions that would shock a Tattoo School graduate--another part of me is very impressed with the end product. And that's something I can say about many of his tattoos: they're good. Really good.

  23. My "official" opinion is to deride and distance myself from it. As hard as I may try not to, I think it's cool. But there are a hell of a lot of things I think are cool that shouldn't be (and aren't) filmed, let alone uploaded to YouTube.

  24. @slayer9019 - thanks for the great suggestion! We have implemented a 10 post minimum requirement before users can create new threads (they can create an intro thread in the intro forum, however). Users w/ less than 10 posts will always see this notice: Let's see how this goes - we can fine tune as needed.Cheers

  26. I wasn't going to post these until it was completed, but I thought "fuck it, why not" and now you guys can see how the cover up progresses  These are the best photos I could get after the first day in Kyoto (6hrs) I still have to get photos of the second day, which completed all the background on the upper arm. Everything is now nearly healed so I'll get some new ones soonish. Apologies for the dodgy photography but I'm pretty sure I was still vibrating haha

  27. I got to start watching this show. The only thing i know about it is Freddy Corbin was in an episode, but I have heard so much about it in the last month. I never thought a show about biker gangs would really interest me, but then again I never thought a show about making meth would have me glued to my set like Breaking Bad does.

    Knee Tattoooo

It's similar to the "hot soak" method that's popular in Japan. About an hour after I get tattooed, I get the water as hot as I can stand it and either take a hot shower or soak in a hot bath for about 10 minutes. It usually hurts worse than the tattoo itself, at least at first, but the pain subsides fairly quickly. I've had great results with healing tattoos this way.

  29. feel free to yell at me for saying this but i find that heavily tattooed women, if they are not tattooers themselves, are off the fucking wall... and i love them but never date them and to address what brian was saying about his buddy's meeting girls in the shop that they tattooed and who are now interested in tattooing. i hate to sound like a shit head but from my personal experience, thats going to be a shit show and i wish them the best of luck

My wife commissioned Daniel to paint a painting for us as my wedding gift. It's incredible! He hand delivered it to her in brooklyn. It's at the framers right now, can't wait to get it back. One of the 1000+ reasons I married her.
