First tattoo
49531 and 4 others reacted to Tight-Lines for a topic
First tattoo was "RISE ABOVE" on my ankles. It was done by a Sureño who worked in the Applebee's kitchen while I was a host. Its obviously a Black Flag tattoo. I was also wearing a Black Flag shirt. I was 17 and stupid. Oh, it was in his studio apartment and he smoked the biggest fucking joint I have ever seen outside of the Pantera Videos before he started as well. I mean, if you are going to get a Black Flag tattoo... thats how it should be done.5 points -
Then you've come to the wrong place. As stated in the Tattoo Newbie Guidelines thread: Do not start threads asking about specific tattooing equipment or techniques, LST is not here to teach anyone how to tattoo. Ask your own tattooer, the next time you are getting tattooed. Maybe they'll answer you, maybe they won't. Do not start threads regarding closely guarded trade secrets - this will keep LST a much more welcoming place for everyone, tattooers and enthusiasts alike. Do not start threads asking questions about "breaking into the business" of tattooing. If you do see threads like that, flag them for mods and try to ignore them until they can be deleted. We want LST to be a place that artists feel welcome, too, and those types of threads do nothing to foster that type of environment. Thanks.5 points

I was lucky enough to score a last minute cancellation with Valerie Vargas at Frith Street Tattoo on Monday. The design is a 1920s flapper girl that Valerie drew up on the spot for me. Valerie is a genius! I am so unbelievably thrilled with how it came out. Looking a bit gross at the moment, will post another pic once healed.5 points -

I wasn't going to post these until it was completed, but I thought "fuck it, why not" and now you guys can see how the cover up progresses  These are the best photos I could get after the first day in Kyoto (6hrs) I still have to get photos of the second day, which completed all the background on the upper arm. Everything is now nearly healed so I'll get some new ones soonish. Apologies for the dodgy photography but I'm pretty sure I was still vibrating haha4 points

@slayer9019 - thanks for the great suggestion! We have implemented a 10 post minimum requirement before users can create new threads (they can create an intro thread in the intro forum, however). Users w/ less than 10 posts will always see this notice: Let's see how this goes - we can fine tune as needed.Cheers3 points -

My "official" opinion is to deride and distance myself from it. As hard as I may try not to, I think it's cool. But there are a hell of a lot of things I think are cool that shouldn't be (and aren't) filmed, let alone uploaded to YouTube.2 points -

Just writing this from the ryokan Im staying in while in Japan. A bit of a movable feast of tattooing-related holiday stuff over the past week.... Also laying the ground for some work next year. My girlfriend has been accepted by Shige as a client and will start her backpiece next year - amazing stuff, and I was slightly star-struck when Shige walked in the door of Yellow Blaze for her appointment. As she is planning a return visit to begin around this time next year, and because I know the dates we will be back over the next while (roughly), Im planning my own work around that. I am going to try and work in a few small pieces while when we are over next, and to that end I called into Harizanmai Tattoo in Kyoto today and spoke briefly with Gakkin about a piece next year. Also took in Horyioshi III museum in Yokohama and met his son and successor smoking nonchalantly at reception. Awesome trip so far!2 points -

So if you are thinking about getting tattoos on your feet, he's some friendly advice: 1) Most important, only do one foot at a time. Your foot is going to swell and hurt like hell for a couple of days, you want at least one good foot to hobble around on. 2) Starting the day before hydrate as much as you can, drink tons of water and cut out the salt, continue this for a couple of days after your tattoo. Good hydration reduces swelling and swelling seems to be the biggest issue with the foot. 3) Make sure you have a minimum of two days off after your tattoo. You do not want to wear shoes until the swelling goes down. 4) When you get home elevate your foot, lie down on the couch, turn on the TV and get your foot as high up as you can. Once again helps prevent/lessen swelling. 5) Fill a ziplock bag with ice and keep it on your foot for as long as you can stand it, continue this every few hours for the first two days. Yup, you guessed it....swelling. 6) Motrin is your friend eases the pain and reduces swelling. If you haven't figured it out, swelling with feet tattoos is a bitch!!! Hopefully this advice will help you out. Now, if you get a dime sized star tattoo, you can probably disregard everything I said. Kevin1 point

Is there a way to impose a post limit before a person can start a thread? I know other forums I am a part of do the same (usually 25). This lets (forces) the poster to understand the nature of the forum (do's and dont's) before they open a useless thread. It also forces new members to use the search function before firing off a thread without looking first. Just a suggestion!1 point -

Steve reacted to Jaycel Adkins for a topic
@Lochlan I think everyone has to accept that it's fundamentally a law of 'internet entropy' that there will always be trolls and people who don't bother to read guidelines. I'm thinking the last couple of 'threads' were people who just viewed the guidelines as 'terms and conditions' on other sites/downloads/updates, something to click through rather than read. For what it's worth: I think LST admins, mods, etc. have done what they can to make this place welcoming yet respectful. If some people don't get what this place is about, then it's no longer something to hold against the forum. To take note: 1. LST solicited suggestions/comments for a 'newbie guideline.' 2. LST wrote up a plain as english guideline manifesto. 3. LST programmed the registration process to make sure new people will see it. 4. LST has open suggestion threads for anyone who has additional ideas. 5. LST has banned and deleted members and threads that have gotten out of hand. The only thing left to do would be to post moderators online 24 hours to act as hall monitors or the safety patrol, i.e. not going to happen. I personally think that LST has made a 'good faith' effort and it's really up to the LST community to tag and bag, bad threads. So when it happens again, and it will, for certain. I would suggest that who ever is first to come across a suspect thread or posting to just: Flag it for a moderator/admin. Make a posting on the thread that: Links to the Guidelines and quotes the guideline that was violated. Let that serve as a 'temporary/voluntary' hold on the thread, for everyone in the community to see. It's fun to start displaying wit and piling on a thread, but it just feeds on itself, the suspect thread stays up longer, it gathers lots of likes, from people liking each other's witty putdowns or indignation, etc. etc. And then the mods or admins are forced to delete the thread, when it would be better to just either lock the thread or let the guideline link and quotes be an object lesson. A deleted thread doesn't teach anyone anything. Is a part of a lot of forums/blogs and actually thinks this is one of the most well-mannered ones around, but if people take others ignorance as a personal affront...well...1 point -

True. I haven't watched the episode yet but there's a difference between an ironic dress/lifestyle and goofing off for the camera. Knowing Troy, I'd put my money on him goofing off. I could see how people would be turned off only knowing Troy through his interviews or stories about him. But the real-life Troy is one of the funniest, honest, salt-of-the-earth, soulful motherfuckers I can think of.1 point -

It's similar to the "hot soak" method that's popular in Japan. About an hour after I get tattooed, I get the water as hot as I can stand it and either take a hot shower or soak in a hot bath for about 10 minutes. It usually hurts worse than the tattoo itself, at least at first, but the pain subsides fairly quickly. I've had great results with healing tattoos this way.1 point

Chad Koeplinger, Frith Street, 28th May 2010, cause i wanted a torch  (also the lettering was at the same time) the picture's backwards, as it was taken in a mirror. the stars and dots filler were done about half a year or so later when i was also getting some other things tattooed by him (Chad) again.1 point

I felt like blowing some life into this old thread. I got this tattooed in some random tattoo shop in Copenhagen back in 2000. The design is taken from my dad's old businesscard (he's a guitar luthier). The picture was taken two minutes prior to posting... Your turn!1 point

New 'Mention' Feature now available
Shannon Shirley reacted to Steve for a topic
Thanks to a great suggestion by @gougetheeyes - all LST members can now communicate directly with each other to let people know when you are talking about or to them in a post. All you have to do is put the '@' symbol directly before the username (not case sensitive) of the member you want to reference and it will automatically turn into a link to their profile and appear as a 'mention' under their 'notifications' at the top of the page - same way as 'Likes' work. Incidentally, you will also receive a notification when someone 'quotes' you in a post. And finally, you will now see 'mentions' and 'quotes' tabs on your user profile that will keep a running 'stream' of such. Let us know if you have questions etc, and please keep the forum suggestions coming! Enjoy.1 point -

Haha indeed! There are a lot worse 'problems' out there, and that is one I could handle easily. The best part of the story for me is "...his creative episodes normally follow a night of heavy drinking" I have a feeling he may have figured out the perfect excuse to get completely legless on the regular "Damn bills have come in, need to sell some more art... well looks like I'm off to the pub"1 point -

Im drunk on scotch listening to Hoods for some reason. Mike Hood is a strange man. I often think that he has satellites orbiting the planet which pick up on phrases like: "Fuck Sacramento", "That last Hoods album was terrible", and "Is Hoods still a band... oh jesus". Once the satellites pick up on those things, mike hood is sent a message via pager with the EXACT location of the person who was shit talking hoods, sacramento or WCWW. If Mike is for some reason reading this, I love hoods and Pit Beast was a good album. <3 Dan.1 point -
