My wife commissioned Daniel to paint a painting for us as my wedding gift. It's incredible! He hand delivered it to her in brooklyn. It's at the framers right now, can't wait to get it back. One of the 1000+ reasons I married her.

    Non-Tattooer owning flash

its hard to bunch collectors into one group as they seem to vary a lot. in the tattoo world some of them have played key roles in preserving history but like anything its a mixed bag. often times people are more concerned with money or how rare something is.. tattooers and collectors both.

  8. Stitch626, how lucky for you to not be in a relationship with a fickle, small minded little man anymore. Sounds like he just released you from what could've been a long and lengthy suppression of your true self, I'm willing to bet he was vacillating and thoughtless in other areas as well. Maybe you should send him a thank you card every year on the anniversary of your independence?

  13. I've just got around to re-assembling my .577 snider that I finished restoring earlier in the year. I imported it from IMA in the USA. The rifle had been in storage for over 100 years so it was a bit mucky with some superficial rust and the buttstock was full of woodworm holes. Its my first restoration and I'm quite pleased with the gun as it still has that old antique look even though its been cleaned up. BEFORE AFTER

  14. When I met my husband about 9 years ago I had 1 tattoo and he had 0. Now I have 5 and on the day I got my 4th (last month), my hubby got his 1st! I think he's hooked now, as he's been printing out images that are inspiring him for his next tattoo. I'm happy about it. I loved him anyway and would be fine with it if he didn't want any--it's his skin after all. But now that he shares my interest it's pretty cool.

  17. i get great enjoyment out of collecting tattoo related items. i spend most of my spare money on old flash, photos, acetates etc. i was always a minimalist growing up so it's strange that the older i get the more i have the urge to collect things like this. i am not 100% sure what my motivation is for a lot of it but i get real enjoyment out of the images associated with early american style tattooing. a lot of the older designs have a visceral quality that really speaks to me. i have the utmost respect for the craft and the lineage associated with it, i am honored to have some items that are a part of that history. i do not collect machines and i have no interest in doing so ( aside from some zeis related items for the book). i can appreciate them but its not visual enough for me. i can understand why people are not trusting of some collectors who are not tattooers but everyone's motivations are different.

I got told by Albrigo that if and when the time comes to leave, that Bink will cut them in square foot peices and give them to friends who have visited that space. kind of a cool idea...its a pretty ridiculous painting- " far- out" is puttin it lightly.... And I dont mind at all if people gank stuff from my blog..especiall to post here... MATTYRUNKS

    Opinions On This Design.

I am getting it! Tomorrow, Sep, 3rd, 2011, 1:00pm. I'm not looking forward to the pain but I can't wait to wear this tattoo. I'll see my Dad again in November. I think he'll like it. I printed it out on an 8x10 sheet of paper, which is almost just the right size for my leg (needs to be shrunk a tiny bit, but not much) and showed it to the artist who's going to do it way back in July. He already knew the back story but when he saw the actual design he said "That's just classic. Period. I cannot wait to do this tattoo." The only reason I didn't get it before is because I wanted to find someone I was absolutely sure would get "it" and could pull it off, and I have.

  25. my role as a female tattooer has been in my thoughts a lot recently. i work hard to be the best i can as a decent human being and as a good tattooer. i feel like my work defines a large part of myself. if i work hard and good comes from it then i feel rewarded. i'm aware of being a woman, at work, walking down the street, etc,,, being taken seriously is very important to me. sometimes i will get younger girls tell me i am a role model to them and i just dont know what to say to that! i hope that it's because they can see the hard work put in and they can see that it does pay off regardless of gender. that you don't need your tits hanging out to get you noticed! if anything i certainly dont think that type of behaviour helps the plight of the 'female' tattooer. i've lost count of the times i've heard people say 'good, for a girl' while growing up and it definitely had an effect on me at an early age.

  26. I can only speak from my perspective. I don't wish to comment too much on the reasoning other tattooers design, paint and sell their flash. Any flash I've bought, vintage or current, has been an investment. That's what I meant by the value of it. The same goes for tattoo machines. I buy these things with the intention of using them. I have more than I can use, but that's not the point. I do like the way they look but they are primarily useful rather than decorative. Any flash I've produced has been intended to be tattooed by other people. I didn't make them as a promotional tool. 95% of the traditional tattoos I do are based on flash. Often they don't look like flash, unless you have the same sheets as me but they do look like tattoos. I use flash to solve design and layout problems quicker. I don't have a problem at all with non-tattooers collecting flash and tattoo memorabilia. Lots of people collect things they never use, that's kind of the point of a collection I suppose.

  27. Most tattooers that paint flash also do 'proper' paintings as well that aren't meant to be used as flash... It's a lot more enjoyable for me to own a really amazing original painting than a print of some flash that I will never use for it's intended purpose. If I was going to spend a few thousand on some art I'd rather buy a painting from someone like Robert Ryan than spend it on a single sheet of Jerry flash. I get why it's worth that much but it's not something I need to own. For me looking at books of his flash is good enough and maybe one day I'll be in a shop or somewhere that has an original that I can look at and appreciate.
