Guys, why care to discuss anything other than the quality of his work? This is a tattoo forum isn't it? The whole hipster thing is not that big here in Norway, so maybe that's why I'm not getting as annoyed by it as some of you. We got more than enough bad vibes from bubblefuck's endless tirade a while back, so why get fired up and argue over something as trivial as the way Cris chooses to dress or cut his hair? I'm not trying to fuel the fire with this post, just merely trying to put it out... Can't we all just get along and ride beautiful unicorns across the double rainbow?6 points

this has been a constant problem in the area i work for years. Almost ten shops in four years, none lasted longer than 18 months. All have said personal attacks on us, as bad as imaginable(really), none ever true. Not an ethical bone in their bodies. best thing to ever happen to us! we have gained a more receptive and appreciative client base. all the manglers that would come in, have a place to go to get their $20 tattoos without bothering people really interested in having a tattoo and more than willing to pay. for every one person they tattoo, five of their friends come to us after seeing it. every time one closes its doors it more certifies our reputation. it takes younger people (18-21) a while to learn "cheap ain't good", but the good ones come around. I can happily say as well......i have never said a bad word about them to customers, any of them, ever! and people really notice and love it. i just say stuff like "Never heard if them." or "did they just open?". recent occurrence in the area is some are offering to finish tattoos we have started. for free even. but, if anyone goes for that option, i didnt really enjoy them anyways. its happened some and worked itself out in my favor. they dont know how much i really know about all of them and how they work. i have people who keep up with them and i keep tabs. but they always shoot themselves in the foot. it works out beautifully. P.S. f your landlord dude4 points

Sorry to hear, Jake. That sucks. That said, if you want tattooing to be made illegal and still plan to tattoo... (thus breaking the law)... why not just break the law and go break some hands? :D4 points -

I definitely understand that reaction. I can appreciate where he's coming from though, since he's genuinely interested in things of a certain era. If you like hunting, you line your walls with antlers. If you like cars, your place might be filled with vintage metal signs. ..if you like tattoos, you're covered in tattoos but other people might think, "Who does that guy think he is?" Maybe the gag reflex lies more with the presentation in the video. It seems like it's tough to make a little video like this and not come off as a little self-aggrandizing. Haven't met the guy, but I doubt he's riding around on an old boneshaker with a handlebar mustache. Those types are the kind I view as the "ironic hipster" types, but he just seems like a normal dude who likes an older aesthetic and I can appreciate that. I like his tattoos and just wanted to share. Thank you and goodnight.3 points -

I'm sure he's a nice guy, and the tattoos are well done... I just feel like it's some sort of meta-hipsterism. The ironic mustache taken to a new, higher level. Then again, I think the tattooers who dress like they're 1950s greasers are silly too, so maybe I just have an issue with people who try to hard to dress the part.3 points -
no offense but tattoo magazine makes me sad to look at. often times it seems to be mediocre work plastered on half naked girls and if its not that its ads for some shitty supply company or some h2ocean bs. sex sells blah blah blah. all show and no substance. my uncle buys me those things and i always end up putting them right in the trash. i wouldn't want my picture in one of those things. sorry...3 points

They're not Paris Hilton or a Kardashian, nobody has a net worth of 15 million dollars, so why are you surprised when a tattooer asks you not to take photos of their shit? Any publicity is not good publicity in an industry that prides itself on not being a bunch of vacuous fucking nincompoops. Also, I find it incredibly insulting when people assume they can take photos of tattooed folks simply because they have tattoos. $0.02.3 points -

Raskolnikov and one other reacted to David Flores for a topic
Yeah I wouldn't do half price tattoos, that is just lumping yourself in with them. There is no real solution, but I know everytime someone comes in and wants to cover up some tattoo they got for twenty dollars I make sure they understand that the price they are paying is more than what they would have paid and now a $20 tattoo ends up costing them $270-$320 to make it look decent. When they could have just spent $180-200 and had a good tattoo in the first place.2 points -

plenty of business models discuss how you can raise your price and loose customers and still make more money. If your product is superior never lower the price1 point

O wow LOL, i checked out their portfolio and work on their facebook and it didnt look that bad to me, but i will check out tcb for sure especially because i just like a couple blocks away from it1 point

I have a tattoo from Cris and it was a good experience. He was very professional and nice. He was all set up and ready to go when I showed up for my appointment. The drawing was good and exactly what we talked about. That sort of professionalism goes a long way with me. Does he come off like some sort of super hipster? Yes. But I honestly don't give a damn how you dress. I don't have to hang out with him. He gave me a tattoo that I like and that other people stop me to comment on all the time.1 point

where are we going ? looking at the past so much feels so depressing. Im sure Cris is a nice person, but i found this vid very depressing. Retro everything seems so frightening, is the future that bleak? when i was a teen my dad would get kinda irritated at retro rockabilly, now i get it.1 point -

Best of luck to you. Your reputation will bring in the customers. Who needs clients that are only prepared to pay $20 for a tattoo, anyway. I like the idea about the sign saying "We fix $20 tattoos"1 point

Pre and post-tattoo rituals
Duffa reacted to CaptCanada for a topic
Pre: Make it a point to drink extra water for the few days prior to getting a tattoo. Day of tattoo make sure I eat something sugary morning of, go to sleep, wake up, eat a bento 2 hours before. (seems funny reading but, 9 AM go to sleep 4 PM wake up, if that helps) Post: Don't really have any rituals. Try to go home, take a shower 2 hours after... but after that nothing. Worst post tattoo night I had was spending all night waiting for a friend in the ER after having my knee shaded.1 point -
