    Clashing of different style

I feel like I'm a clash of different styles. I speak a few different languages, have more than a few interests, and have done a lot of different things in my life. My tattoos are a reflection of that, and as much as I admire people with one full suit from a single artist, I know that it's not for me.

  5. I had promised myself NO MORE DANG TATTOOS in 2011 (which has seen the Abe Lincoln/Panther Paws tattoo, the Hand of Glory, the devil head, the skull and bee and the fingers- more tattoos than I got from 2008 to 2010 combined) but my girlfriend (the lovely Claire) told me tonight that my birthday present is a gift certificate* for some time with Robert Ryan. I guess there's one more to sneak in for 2011. *she was too lazy to go to Asbury to get the cert, so she is giving me money with a note that says 'for a robert ryan tattoo'. I'm getting too old for this shit.

  9. Thank you for posting this thread, I have similar concerns/thoughts. Some stuff I found on LST that might help you out: Similar thread: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/797-collecting-different-styles.html Here is the video that is referred to from the 'Old Tattoo Documentaries' thread started by ShawnPorter, a Great Thread! Here a link to the the above thread as well: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-101/636-old-tattoo-documentaries.html I am curious if anyone is seeing any 'hybrid' tattoos being done in a great fashion? Here is the only one that I found that I thought, 'Wow!' SHIGE of Yellow Blaze: Yokohama, Japan. edit: Apologies, but the similar thread had RoryQ, asking about getting a Thomas Hooper Tattoo next to a different style and having a jarring effect, but in the recent Gypsy Gentleman episode, by Marcus Kuhn, Thomas Hooper does do that, looks pretty cool.

  10. I think your tattooer makes a good point. The only problem is the more you get tattooed the more you realize there are tons of people you want to get tattooed by, so not only do you have to worry about different tattoo styles, but having different tattooers stuff blend together. I abandoned the idea a long time ago and just get what I want and eventually it will all be filled in. But I would say if you are really looking for a full body suit look listen to your tattooer, oh and don't get biomech.

  13. It seems like it kind of just depends on the tattooer and the design. I have had people draw stuff on me a couple of times but most of the time stencils were applied. There are a lot of guys out there that do amazing work and they choose to draw the design on in certain cases. However the term "free hand ", has become kind of a buzz word among some customers and a gimmick by people who need one in my opinion.

    Clashing of different style

I am begining to think of it as a map with connections but no two places are the same. I first thought I would be all black and grey and still may, but now I am open to splashes of color and different styles. I have seen a few geisha masks recently that make me want to get one(loosely based of a picture of my daughter). The japanese stuff while spectacular is not my style. This however would be a meaningful piece to me and when its all said and done thats what matters, not if youve conformed to one style or theme for all of your tattoos.

  16. Thanks. Searching for pictures to post, I realize I don't have fully-healed shots of many of my tattoos. Shameful, really. Will post more soon. Lochlan, I'd hate to bore anyone with the details of my dissertation, though it's nice of you to ask. In a nutshell, I'm writing about Los Angeles and the rise of gangsta rap. My goal is to write something that, unlike most academic books about hip-hop, is actually interesting. We shall see.

  17. I think uniformity is boring and I fully intend to be covered with a clash of styles from different artists . For me each tattoo is an individual piece of artwork not a part of a big jigsaw.

  19. I agree with the opinion that it depends on the tattooer. The only i have to notice is that there are some tattooers who "sells" "freehand tattooing" as something that needs special skills or something that proves his artistic skills.I know that i may be misunderstood because its very general as i m saying it but maybe some will understand.

  25. I dunno if this is what you mean but : I thought about getting my back done as a full back piece for a long time and always thought yeah it's cool but not for me, I'll just get a bunch of small stuff like I have on my arms and legs. Then I met mike Wilson and instantly knew I wanted a full back piece and that it was going to be from him. I told him at least a year or more before I started that I wanted it. I didn't know what I wanted for a while but just kept reminding him 'one day you're doing my back'. Once I decided what I wanted (panther + snake) I let him know and had him do a tracing. We started it about a month after that. That was about 2 years ago and I've got one maybe two more short sessions and it'll be done. Its one of the best tattoo decisions ive ever made.

Work towards starting a back piece. Then when it's finished if you're in the same job, you've got your legs to do. And on and on..

    Random Picture Thread

If a fight breaks out in the random picture thread i'm going to be pretty sad. Guys, THIS IS THE RANDOM PHOTO THREAD. We have been posting exactly that. No one should be taking offence to anyone else's photos. Get the fuck over it. It's a random photo you happen to not like. So just don't click the like button and the post a photo you do like to make it all better. There's no point in anyone saying this picture belong and this one doesn't, that makes it the not so random thread of photos that are totally PC and won't offend anyone. Get the fuck over it. This message is not directed at any one person. I like you all.

My palms are sweating as I type this. I just have to remember each time I get tattooed its not as bad as I think it will be.

  41. Okay, here's the update. Hotstuff and Panther by Scott Sylvia. Kewpie and White Tiger by Bryan Burke. Both tattoos were done in 2 sittings, black in one sitting, color in the next. Scotts side was about 5 1/2 hours. Bryans side was 4 1/2 hours total. I started Bryans side first but finished Scotts side first. I lagged on Bryan and was procrastinating getting it finished a bit because Scotts side hurt so bad. Bryan actually had to call me up and be like, "we finishing this tattoo we started or what?". Sorry Bryan. Both these guys are quick as can be and for a painful spot like the ribs I really appreciated that. I gotta say the second sitting with Scott i was feeling a little nauseous and almost ready to tap out towards the end. Scott hurt more!
