  1. you just hit the nail on the head. here's the thing, most of us don't talk about all aspects of the industry, especially those of us who don't tattoo. it's kind of like a secret recipe, you might get most of the basic ingredients, maybe even their amounts, but the spices or the signature ingredient is left out. because why pay for the milk if you can get the cow for free? most of us (at least i think) are perfectly fine with not knowing every single detail about what it takes to make a tattoo if we're not tattooing. there are aspects of the industry that i'm curious about, and if i asked an artist in person about them, i might even get an answer, but if i was told "sorry i'm not going to answer that", then i would respect it and back off. while your statement about the internet is true, that you can learn just about anything from searching around, this community is not the answer to all of your questions, and if someone says "no" then you should also respect that there is a reason why they said "no". it's ok to ask, and i agree, if you're new to something, you may not be aware of boundaries, but when someone says to "stop", then you should stop. this goes to most situations in life, online and off.

  2. This is where we have a great opportunity to not go the way other forums either started or went.....we hope LSTers will chose the respectful, educational, and positive path or just ignore the post/thread. Tough gals/guys, grandiosity, and attitudes need not apply to LST.....

  4. Well, ultimately it's up to tattooers to just not answer the questions. People are going to ask questions and occasionally step over the line, especially people new to this who don't know any better. Most of the time it's an honest mistake, it's no big deal and a gentle correction should suffice. It's when people start demanding to know things, like we owe them something, that there's a problem.

Dear Mr. or Mrs. Juggalove, I was a proud member of your dating site for some amount of time until I tried to log in this morning and found my account was suddenly deleted. Honestly I am at a loss for words. Countless hours of hard work and dedication went into the creation of that page and I now have nothing to show for it. In addition, I had spoken to many "fine ass bitches" and had received not four but a total of five numbers from some sweet ass hoes. I hope you realize that you have managed to ruin my virtual dating life. I have had to move my online profile to OKCUPID. You know how fucking degrading that shit is? Honestly, all the fucking girls are "24 year old bisexuals who are in a god damn transitional phase" All I wanted was to meet a nice down to earth hoe that I could one day marry and have hella little juggalo babies with. Now I'm going to be alone for the rest of my god damn life sad masturbating to videos from this years Gathering. With Regards, Daniel Costello Sent at 10:00 this morning. Ill let yall know how this goes.,

  9. this is rad, I was thinking of staring a thread like this bit figured everyone would just shit all over it. anyways, glad to see it's already here.. This is what i'm currently working on (unfinished at the moment) It's hand embroidery and paint on fabric. It's going to be a patch for a denim vest. I've also been making what I'm calling embroidered talismans the past week, here's one of them It's also hand sewn and is about2.5"

  10. i completely disagree with that... but i can agree to disagree. can we just stop the snarky bantering back and forth and let this thread die?

  12. Gouge - First, agreed about Ron's print! It's awesome. I met him at a convention but didn't know he was an awesome tattooer at the time, fail on my part! Hopefully Ron, I'll be seeing you at another one soon. The Lil Talismans (funny you call it that, i posted on my blog and called them tiny talismans). I'm being inspired by images from books about alchemy, witchcraft, astrology but I've been sewing them I guess you would say free hand. I'm just going at it and so far it's worked out. Some are more obvious than others, like I did one of an eye, and then some like one I posted were just made up in my brains.

  16. Irezumi, I apprenticed under Jack in Savannah in 1988 and it was something else haha! It was pre prozac! Deb, it might have been the Inksmith connection, but it was his nature to not welcome other tattooers. In my time there we never had a tattooer visit but some would call and it was always "how slow it is" and that type of thing. He was the most paranoid and untrusting person I ever met and that made such an impact on me.. i still have to keep my back to the wall and eyeball every person that comes through the door. I am sure if you work for Jack you have heard the stories. IF he likes you he has a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. both him and Sharon were so nice to me. I owe Jack everything for getting me into this business. I will have to go through some pics I have and post them. I have some good ones!

    Tattooers Top Five

I did versatile tattooers because having spent pretty much my entire career thus far in a street shop, versatility is what I've come to respect and aspire to most. I mean I have tons of friends who are amazing tattooers and have very specific styles, and they very rarely work outside those styles, But they also have a very tailored clientele seeking out their work. I just don't feel that's my path. at least not yet. I love having to push myself to rise to challenges as they come to me in whatever style the client wants.

  24. Im afraid i don't know anyone in your local area, but if you're willing to travel just a little bit extra i recommend Laserlife on baker street, london (i'm not 100% on the name though, something along those lines) or Tattoo Uk have a branch in Rayner's lane also in london (tube stop right across the street) that do laser treatment. I think your best bet is to first of all find an artist whose work you like and ask for their opinion, every tattooer feels different about cover ups and they might suggest something you have not considered before. voices on the internet can only help so far, for actual guidance and trustworthy option you should really start off with finding a new artist and speaking with them in person.

  25. Bubble...it seems like stuff works pretty good outside of your experience. Why should the whole forum need to change to acommodate one or two people who don't seem to get it?

  26. I belive it would be a good idea that in the sticky that is being written for "tattoo noobies, welcome to LST" that we have a rule # what ever, no sharing of technical information that we can point out to people when they ask a question that goes a little bit to over the limit.
    1 point
  27. HAHAHAHA YES! CLEARLY that is what Scott Sylvia had in mind! A nice forum where non-tattooers (who have no interest in tattooing of course!) could ask technical how-to questions from each other without annoying a bunch of tattooers, who are hanging out, you know, "over there!" You sir, truly, are the limit!

  28. Oh ok so she already knows she's a good artist. Well that's good, that's half the battle right there, right? Yeah, I mean why would she want the opinion of people who have been doing what she wants to do for years? Seeing as how she doesn't know anyone on here and never will. I mean it's certainly not like anyone on here knows each other in real life, especially not the tattooers! Makes sense, thanks for clearing that up!

  36. ....our new moderator Hogg! We are really stoked to have him be our first moderator and think he'll be a great fit. He'll work with a lot of the day to day stuff like I have been doing (and will continue to do) since we launched the site I just need some extra eyes and hands. Please join me in welcoming him and if you have day to day stuff hit him up! If you are unfamiliar with him I coincidently did The Three Questions with him recently so check him out. Thanks Hogg for joining us!

  37. repeat customers doesn't make you a good tattoo artist. this is how scratchers survive, because they're usually cheap and their clients are ignorant (or delusional) as to what makes a tattoo good.

  41. This tattoo was done on my boss Ross Ferrie by Pinky Yun in 1982. Ross always tells this story of getting this dragon along with many others of Pinky. Pinky basically dipped a toothipick in some black ink gave himself a few reference points and just started tattooing on his arm. Ross admits he wasn't so sure at the time but the end result turned out. The other photo is Ross and Pinky in 1982 and a painting our friend Ashley did for Ross shortly after Pinky's death. Note Ashley painted this while in New Zealand only from what he remembered it looking like.
