Really enjoyed the Craig Ferguson piece. Now, for something a bit more forceful:3 points -
for those of us in recovery, it definitely makes you grateful to be one of the lucky ones. I can understand why a 'normie' may look down at her and pass blame because they can't understand the addict mentality without being one and suffering from it themselves. I'm sure it's a lot harder to hit bottom with a nice supply of money and unfortunately we see the demise of celebrities all too often, not to say that it doesn't happen just as much to us regular folk... I know at least 4 people that have passed in the last 2 months as a result, either directly or indirectly, to using drugs and alcohol. My 2 best friends that I got clean/sober with both passed away, one was 2 years into my recovery, the other was 2 months ago... For a dope fiend like me I know that one is too many and a thousand is never enough..... So far, 6+ years later I'm still one of the lucky ones and for that I'm grateful....3 points

Thank you for this thread, has been lucky to avoid the comments going around about Amy Winehouse. When people are snarky and nasty I remember this monologue by Craig Ferguson about Britney Spears, obviously this is more serious situation, but strikes the right notes, then and now:2 points -

Me and my friends were downtown for the public memorial today. Over 200.000 people came to show their respect. Thought I'd share a couple of pictures I took... This is where the public came to lay down flowers, letters and light candles in memory of the victims. A police car parked right by the memorial spot. My thoughts and sincerest compassion goes out to the relatives and friends of the victims. Today was a sad day, but it felt good to be united with my fellow Oslo residents against these despicable acts. Public memorials were held all over the country today. Jaycel, Thanks for putting that up. I got sober when I was 27, I was lucky. I can't say that I'm a completely different person, I'm not, but 14 years later I'm a lot more useful, and I have a life I couldn't have pictured at 27. I'm sorry that she didn't get the help, love and support that she needed, or find her own turning point, to get out of that hole. Amy Winehouse was once a beautiful, captivating, and incredibly talented girl, we'll never know what she could've brought to the world if she had survived and thrived.1 point

ugh my Facebook has become almost 100% clogged with people I don't know. For some reason every single random person who has anything to do with tattooing has added me. I guess because I'm friends with a couple good known tattooers that I actually know all these shitty tattooers just go through those guys lists and add everyone. What shawn porter said is right on the mark though. People don't realize that 1000's of people die yearly from drug overdose and no one cares. Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't put them in a different league than other addicts. I don't really care that she has died but I don't think she deserved it or anyone else does either. I just don't know her so it doesn't really effect my personal life. Same with pretty much any other celebrity who dies. If you've never met the person I don't understand how you could be so sad or angry that she's dead. It's not your neighbour's kid you grew up with, and you don't know her any better than the junkie on the street that died last night, if you're going to be heartbroken about her, be heartbroken about that junkie too.1 point

I work in a bar. One of our bartenders just hit bottom a few months ago and is totally clean and sober now. He logged into FB today to see everyone slagging the "fucking addict"... the same friends who "supported" him during his giving up alcohol. He pointed out that when they were talking about her, they were talking about him too. He was powerless over his addictions too. He went to rehab. He gave up drinking a million times but went back to it. When he almost died, he realized enough was enough. When people say things like she deserved it, they mean he deserved it too. As do all of the people who fight addiction. It's horseshit, and it's being cruel to be cool.1 point -
i liked her quite a bit, and i'm not ashamed to admit that. she brought back a sound that had been forgotten by pop music in my opinion. i'm just sick of snarky, ignorant comments in general. i made a decision to stop being friends with someone this week over a "joke" in which he stated that it should be mandated that all people with mental illness should be euthanised. when i confronted him on it (albeit, not doing so the best way) i was just met with excuses and the blame was turned around on me for doing so, because i "didn't get" the joke. as a person who suffers from mental illness, fuck that and fuck you. there are some things that just shouldn't be joked about, and people's suffering, again in my humble opinion, isn't one of them. where is the compassion and kindness? do people forget that there is real suffering associated with these things? sorry for the rant. i really needed to vent.1 point

I had a guy come in a few months ago asking for snowflakes on his nose. After about 20 minutes of me asking "are you sure? thats your NOSE man." (the guy only had one other tattoo, a tiger on his forearm) He seemed perfectly sober and willing to commit to his nose tattoo, so I finally said fuck it and got set up. I decided to just draw em on with sharpie, so i drew actual snowflake shapes from the bridge of his nose to his nostrils and he didnt like it, he wanted them smaller so i wound up just doing the traditional stars and dots all over his nose. He took a break about every 3 stars and kept saying "next time i need a drink before this shit! damn!" After about an hour of "add one more here, make this one bigger" I was finally done with this guy, took his money, the end? Nope! The guy comes in WASTED 2 weeks later wanting a touch up, I told him he was too drunk and to come back when he was sober. So he comes back a couple weeks later, seemed a little tipsy but coherent enough. This time he wants his snowflakes covered up, because he was getting funny looks. He wanted me to put brown over it to match his skin color. i told him it wouldnt work but he insisted and had cash, so i get set up again and packed brown into this guys nose. Bridge to nostrils. He must've slammed a 5th of something while i was setting up because he wound up passing out drunk in the chair, we had to throw his ass out of the shop, he winds up passing out while leaning on one of those smokers pole things we have outside the shop, its snowing outside, he's in a t-shirt, puking all over the sidewalk. We're yelling at him to leave. Eventually the cops came and apparently he assaulted the cops and had to be taken away in an ambulance. So now this guy is walking around with snowflakes on his nose thats a shade browner than the rest of his face. That was the most ridiculous walk in I've had so far. Because of that I dont tattoo faces anymore. Unless its another tattooer.1 point

when I first started tattooing a lady came to me with a terrible photo of a man- in the distance , behind a kitchen table. She wanted a portrait of him. Well, I did it to the best of my limited ability - which at the time was really limited. When it was done, she looked at it in the mirror and said " I hope my husband doesn't recognize him!"1 point -

about 7 years ago, when i worked at deluxe, i was doing a kanji on this chick's lower back. she was doing ok, then got a little light-headed. so, we stopped, i let her sit down, got her some water, her friend gave her candy. waited about ten minutes, she was feeling better, chatting, color came back in her face. she seemed totally fine. so, we decide to finish up( there was literally one minute left on the tattoo.) she takes a final swig of her water and takes two steps toward the trash can, to throw out her cup. SHE PASSES OUT STANDING UP. !!!CRACK!!! she hit the floor unconscious, no reflexes, face first. it sounded like a bat hitting a baseball. it was the scariest sound ever, and we were stunned. for a second we all just stood there with our mouths open, then the silence was broken by the chick's eerie moaning. blood was pooling out around her head and she seemed REAL confused and in a lot of pain. she was crying and not getting up. so, i called 911, they show up pretty quick, paramedics come in and i tell them what happened. in the most non-challant way, dude glances at her, then back at me and pulls his sleeve up to show me an old armband..."hey bro, how much would it be to fix this up?". i repeated that she was bleeding and in pain and he says "she'll be ok, probably just broke her jaw." his buddy is behind us looking at flash! so, they finally take her out on a stretcher and off to the hospital. i start cleaning up the blood, and notice her teeth left an indent in our floor. SHE HIT HARD. so, her friend is on her way out and is quietly giggling, and i ask what is so funny? she says "well, in the last week her boyfriend dumped her, her car got stolen and she got fired. she was hoping this tattoo would turn her luck around." it was the kanji for "lucky".1 point -
