Maybe its because where we live, but its not that common for a woman to have a sleeve tattoo, so maybe thats why my wife gets comments all the time. Another one that she has encountered was at Tim Hortons after our car club cruise night. We get some Tea and go to get a table. There is this old guy that is a regular there and looks at Sarah and says "Holy Cow look at all those tattoos!! What are you going to do about that when your old??". To that she replied, "Well probably when I am old like you, I'll either not give a rat's ass what young people think, or I'll be crazy like you, either way it won't matter". His buddy at the other table piped up and said "HAHAHA she's got you there!". LOL good times! :)4 points

Amy Winehouse

So I'm not the world's most sensitive person, and the deaths of celebrities rarely get me to raise an eyebrow... but perhaps it's because of all the horrible devastation in Oslo this week, or maybe I'm just softening up... But is anyone else annoyed by all the snarky, shitty posts about Amy Winehouse's death? I'm not a fan by any means, but it's a race to see who's more clever or witty or hurtful about the death of a very troubled 27yo and that's just fucking sickening. Sure, she had the world in the palm of her hand, but she also had addiction. One powerful enough to wreck her life. I dunno man. I definitely deleted a few 'friends' from facebook for being unnecessarily cruel.3 points -

I work in a bar. One of our bartenders just hit bottom a few months ago and is totally clean and sober now. He logged into FB today to see everyone slagging the "fucking addict"... the same friends who "supported" him during his giving up alcohol. He pointed out that when they were talking about her, they were talking about him too. He was powerless over his addictions too. He went to rehab. He gave up drinking a million times but went back to it. When he almost died, he realized enough was enough. When people say things like she deserved it, they mean he deserved it too. As do all of the people who fight addiction. It's horseshit, and it's being cruel to be cool.3 points -
My favorite was when we were on an elevator and someone asked Scott how many tattoos he had. He said, "Now? Just one," meaning that they were all connected and made one big tattoo.3 points

If you have time, the 'thumb through the fly/zipper to look like a penis' trick is a good one. Or make the sex gesture with forefinger entering thumb/forefinger deal. That or just flip them the bird. Imagine how cool their family album will look with a tattooed dude dropping some sneaky sex gestures.3 points -

ugh my Facebook has become almost 100% clogged with people I don't know. For some reason every single random person who has anything to do with tattooing has added me. I guess because I'm friends with a couple good known tattooers that I actually know all these shitty tattooers just go through those guys lists and add everyone. What shawn porter said is right on the mark though. People don't realize that 1000's of people die yearly from drug overdose and no one cares. Just because someone is a celebrity doesn't put them in a different league than other addicts. I don't really care that she has died but I don't think she deserved it or anyone else does either. I just don't know her so it doesn't really effect my personal life. Same with pretty much any other celebrity who dies. If you've never met the person I don't understand how you could be so sad or angry that she's dead. It's not your neighbour's kid you grew up with, and you don't know her any better than the junkie on the street that died last night, if you're going to be heartbroken about her, be heartbroken about that junkie too.2 points

I'm hugely annoyed, Shawn. It also seems that many are acting as if being saddened by her death is an outright rejection of the tragedies in Norway. They're not mutually exclusive, not by a long shot. Lots of sad news going around, so no need to use it for sanctimonious ends. The net result is that it made me wanna hug my wife and daughter. She was a huge talent with even bigger demons. She left us too soon and I hope she finds peace now.2 points

Just out of curiosity, do you have any tattoos currently? If not, I'll caution you that you're in for a fantastic ride, but also one that will be very (very!) expensive and trying. But I applaud you for your lofty goal and wish you the best of luck achieving it.2 points

i liked her quite a bit, and i'm not ashamed to admit that. she brought back a sound that had been forgotten by pop music in my opinion. i'm just sick of snarky, ignorant comments in general. i made a decision to stop being friends with someone this week over a "joke" in which he stated that it should be mandated that all people with mental illness should be euthanised. when i confronted him on it (albeit, not doing so the best way) i was just met with excuses and the blame was turned around on me for doing so, because i "didn't get" the joke. as a person who suffers from mental illness, fuck that and fuck you. there are some things that just shouldn't be joked about, and people's suffering, again in my humble opinion, isn't one of them. where is the compassion and kindness? do people forget that there is real suffering associated with these things? sorry for the rant. i really needed to vent.2 points

Hey everyone, Now I am sure we have all had people come up to us and have some negative comment thrown at us about our tattoos. What have been some actual quick thinking comebacks you have used to sort of defend/make the idiot go away. I'll start it off: My wife and I were in a clothing store and this lady comes up to us and said "Look at that awful tattoo, I don't like to see that on a woman". My wife's zippy comeback was "Ya well I don't like to see a mustache and a beard on a woman either but there is nothing I can do about yours..." We laughed and she walked away all frown faced LOL1 point -

too many people are trying to "be cool", it's like being in primary school. i deleted facebook, it has resolved so much exposure to negativity. my google+ has 2 people currently. i wasn't very shocked that she had an overdose, i wish i was more shocked that people think it's funny or try to make jokes about it.1 point

usually i like it if ever i get comments that are negative, it's easier to determine where people stand. as a general rule, i don't engage in conversations with mouth breathers, idiots, rude assholes, etc...all it ends up doing is dragging you down to their level at some point. when asked what will i do when i'm old, i just say if i manage to live that long i'll probably be more concerned with not having to wear a diaper and who's going to have to change me if i do have to wear one.1 point

Letter to City Council members / Dept. of Health regarding Tattoo Schools
Mel Noir reacted to William Burgess for a topic
Look at my thread about chemical compisition of tattoo pigments. Nobody want to reveal them, insisting its a "trade secret', yet probably a lot of these guys want to go to government agencies in a vain attempt to protect the trade. Can't have it both ways unfortunately. I think trying to get the government involved is just plain playing with fire. They will regulate and tax this thing to death. Look what happened in Oregon, apprenticeships are actually illegal, "tattoo school" is the only way to go there. Can't people understand that the authorities can never appreciate the informal teaching methods that is involved in any true apprenticeship? Gotta be "official", which includes unwarranted fees and ludicrous rules written by people that have absolutely no interest in tattooing whatsoever. Keep them out of it, educate the customer on what standards to insist on. True professionals have done a pretty good job of this on their own, because they care about the trade and have ethics. Quti trying to protect people from there own lack of judgement.1 point -

Rose Morphs
hogg reacted to Jennifer Stell for a topic
I was thinking, and then Richard confirmed... As far as we know, he got one of the first rose morphs on the back of his thigh, a piece by Ed Hardy, it's a design that he saw that was in a slide show he saw back in 1992... It hung for years in the shop, and no one ever got it... He was "amazed" no one had gotten the piece yet... And they actually didn't call it a morph, the term they first used was, "HYBRID"... It's a Panther-Rose... It can be seen in the book, Tattooing the Invisible Man. It's one of Richards favorite tattoos.1 point -
