  1. I had a guy come in a few months ago asking for snowflakes on his nose. After about 20 minutes of me asking "are you sure? thats your NOSE man." (the guy only had one other tattoo, a tiger on his forearm) He seemed perfectly sober and willing to commit to his nose tattoo, so I finally said fuck it and got set up. I decided to just draw em on with sharpie, so i drew actual snowflake shapes from the bridge of his nose to his nostrils and he didnt like it, he wanted them smaller so i wound up just doing the traditional stars and dots all over his nose. He took a break about every 3 stars and kept saying "next time i need a drink before this shit! damn!" After about an hour of "add one more here, make this one bigger" I was finally done with this guy, took his money, the end? Nope! The guy comes in WASTED 2 weeks later wanting a touch up, I told him he was too drunk and to come back when he was sober. So he comes back a couple weeks later, seemed a little tipsy but coherent enough. This time he wants his snowflakes covered up, because he was getting funny looks. He wanted me to put brown over it to match his skin color. i told him it wouldnt work but he insisted and had cash, so i get set up again and packed brown into this guys nose. Bridge to nostrils. He must've slammed a 5th of something while i was setting up because he wound up passing out drunk in the chair, we had to throw his ass out of the shop, he winds up passing out while leaning on one of those smokers pole things we have outside the shop, its snowing outside, he's in a t-shirt, puking all over the sidewalk. We're yelling at him to leave. Eventually the cops came and apparently he assaulted the cops and had to be taken away in an ambulance. So now this guy is walking around with snowflakes on his nose thats a shade browner than the rest of his face. That was the most ridiculous walk in I've had so far. Because of that I dont tattoo faces anymore. Unless its another tattooer.

    Zippy comebacks!

Hey everyone, Now I am sure we have all had people come up to us and have some negative comment thrown at us about our tattoos. What have been some actual quick thinking comebacks you have used to sort of defend/make the idiot go away. I'll start it off: My wife and I were in a clothing store and this lady comes up to us and said "Look at that awful tattoo, I don't like to see that on a woman". My wife's zippy comeback was "Ya well I don't like to see a mustache and a beard on a woman either but there is nothing I can do about yours..." We laughed and she walked away all frown faced LOL

    too many animal tattoos?

over half of my tattoos have animals in them, and i'm about to have a sleeve of animals. i don't think there can ever be too many if those are the designs you want.

  7. my only question, and i'm only asking because this issue has been discussed on here, is does this bring too much government attention then to tattooing in general? will this then be grounds for more regulation on tattooing as a whole? i'm all for writing letters, but i guess i'm also worried that it will do more harm than good. maybe it won't though?

  9. Would probably help if I included the letter... Dear _______, As you may be aware, the TLC television network is airing a series called Tattoo School that features a business called the Tattoo Learning Center, which operates facilities in San Diego, California and Schenectady, New York. Amidst all the recent publicity that it has garnered, I am urging you to please oppose this business. The trade of tattooing is one of the few occupations left in which a master trains an apprentice. This working relationship lasts years in order for the apprentice to acquire the mechanical, artistic and interpersonal skills necessary to complete a tattoo that is done correctly and is in line with strict guidelines established by the Department of Health. Tattooing is a licensed practice and a lack of knowledge regarding infection control and training related to blood-borne pathogens can create severe health risks. For a fee, the Tattoo Learning Center purports to teach years of training in a mere two weeks time. As a member of the tattoo community, I am appalled that such organizations are gaining legitimacy. I am disgusted by the flagrant disregard for the industry as a whole, and I shudder to imagine the health code violations which are bound to happen when so-called students are unleashed on the general public with only a modicum of training. Although these tattoo schools have always existed, they did so on the very fringe of the tattoo industry and had never been given much legitimacy simply because any tattooer –– or any tradesman, for that matter –– worth his or her own salt knows that paying a fee (usually ranging from $2,000 to $6,000) and spending a couple weeks in a classroom cannot begin to prepare anyone for real-world experience. However, because the TLC network has chosen to glorify this shortcut to tattooing, I am compelled to do everything within my power to oppose the Tattooing Learning Center and other businesses like it. Regardless of your opinion of tattoos or the tattoo industry, it is one of the richest and most sacred trades in our country and throughout the world. Centuries-old traditions are passed from master to apprentice, secrets are fiercely guarded and you would be hard-pressed to find the kind of support, loyalty and friendship between peers and coworkers in any industry. A doctor only becomes a doctor after years of schooling and multiple certifications. A master luthier can only be called a master after undergoing rigorous training. A sommelier is not simply a wine enthusiast because it has taken a lifetime to understand the complexities of wine. And any competent tattooer has spent years making tattooing his or her life work. Please oppose the Tattoo Learning Center in Schenectady and others like it. Sincerely...

My cat was part of a litter I was supposed to give away but one of his brothers or sisters bit the end of his tail off and the bone was poking out so nobody wanted him. He looks great now though, just missing a quarter inch of tail. Never posted a picture before so I hope I do it correctly.

Sometimes all it takes is for something big in your life to come to an end. Most people fall apart while others thrive. If you can thrive I think it shows what type of person you are. No disrespect to people who dont of course.

  23. So mine would be considered a re-work rather than a cover up... i got it re-done within one year of getting the tattoo and you'll see why... originally done by Dave Gibson (yes THE dave gibson) and re-done by Mike Wilson sorry for the horrid photo quality of the before, but it didn't look any better in person haha and after the entire experience was bad, from him (dave not mike) refusing to do the tattoo in the spot i wanted, to making sounds like an injured man after every line he pulled.. but thankfully it was fixable and you can't even tell it was a shitter at first

    Been M.I.A

Yeah I've been wanting to move out of my ex's parent's house for quite sometime, I couldn't stand the intervention of her mother getting into our relationship and questioning me about petty bull shit, not to mention I was cheated on back in Dec. I am in a community of artists, and local businesses. I'll be able to ride my bike to my internship which is a few blocks away, my boxing gym, and to commute around. I'll only have to drive to school twice a week. I'm stoked!

    Rose Morphs

I was thinking, and then Richard confirmed... As far as we know, he got one of the first rose morphs on the back of his thigh, a piece by Ed Hardy, it's a design that he saw that was in a slide show he saw back in 1992... It hung for years in the shop, and no one ever got it... He was "amazed" no one had gotten the piece yet... And they actually didn't call it a morph, the term they first used was, "HYBRID"... It's a Panther-Rose... It can be seen in the book, Tattooing the Invisible Man. It's one of Richards favorite tattoos.

  39. Mix it up I suppose but I don't think there is any way around getting a bunch of animal tattoos. Panthers, Sharks, Eagles, Tigers, Snakes etc are what tattoos are supposed to be IMO and you can never have too many of them if they are done well. Granted Daggers, Roses, Pinups are good too but what makes a dagger better........having it go through a panther head with a snaked wrapped around the handle. I rest my case.

I booked in to get tattooed by him three weeks from today, and by Tomek Szumiec (who'll be guesting at Name Brand) the day after. I'm so unbelievably geeked about it, and now I'm having a really tough time getting any work done this afternoon. Just have to figure out what I want to get from Tomek...

Nope! i wanted to originally name him Artichoke (i like naming pets after various foods for some reason), and his nickname would've been Arti, but my partner at the time told me that the name didn't fit him. so i said, "well, what name does fit him then?" and to which Paul replied, "he looks like a Henry!" ever since, everyone has thought i named him after Rollins since i also really like him, but they are all wrong. just a coincidence!

  45. Sigh, This discussion never really goes anywhere when it's over-analysed but I can't resist adding my 2p. With regards to tattooing, it's more of a moral issue -something you feel is right or wrong. From my point of view copyright exists and is useful purely from a financial point of view. To protect or safeguard earnings. Intellectual copyright does the same thing, it just doesn't need as much paperwork. I shudder at the thought of copy written tattoo designs. Actually, most of the better designs/ideas/compositions are folk art, like nursery rhymes or bedtime stories. The best ones are archetypes and you can't copyright them. If you understand the mechanics of logic and use it's arguments to your advantages, you can 'prove' that black is white. I see many theoretical discussions (such as this) in the same manner. It doesn't matter how much you talk about it and offer examples, the true result doesn't change, regardless how the argument turns out. Tattooing doesn't need copyright. We stole it all anyway. The more honest of us will pass it on to someone else.

Ever since I turned 21 and had a shot of Tully I've been hooked, and when I'm really itchin for a fight/ shenanigans I go for Makers Mark. I guess it all depends on my mood what I drink, I like Jameson but rarely drink it. Though my all time favorite has to have been the 12 yr old Tully my friend brought back from Ireland this last summer. Good lord... theres a picture some where of it. "You ok?" ...... "Yep, just on fire..." "I'll take another please!" "but you just said..." "Yeah Give me another!"

  49. --------I've made up my mind----- I think I'm going to remove posts on Facebook regarding this. I'm going to " unlike" posts that I've already "liked" on Facebook. I'm not going to ally myself with some of the people, who are in my estimation part of the big picture problem. I'm just not going to watch it, not going to discuss it. I'm going to allow the blind to lead the blind. That show, those people and the people that will watch it and give it merit- have nothing to do with what I love and what I do. And if this is the beginning of the end, then I'm glad I was able to do what I love---- I'll go underground if I have to--- Been there done that. I will not give this anymore energy.
