Growing up of course they were taboo in my household, as I had very strict parents as you may know the type. Anyway, even after I spent time in the military I had never got one basicly because of my up in grained line of thought on them. Well for the past several years, I thought long and hard on them, it was like something just nawing at me. Well I finally decided on the one I wanted, and got it several weeks ago as it is about a place I love. Anyway, its the beginning and will be getting another one done here this Saturday.1 point

Tattoos and why

When I was little, I saw an old 'tattooed man' in Gibsonton, Florida. Gibb'town was where the circuses and sideshows wintered and a lot of the old timers ended up retiring down there. It's also where we went fishing with our folks, so seeing extraordinary people was a perk. I remember seeing his arms, just blueish black messes, and wanting SO much to be like that when I grew up.1 point -

just be respectful. yes tips and cupcakes are awfully nice, but thats not what gets me to work on time everyday. just be nice. leave your tuff guy attitude at the door. dont try to impress us, just be nice. if you know some jokes, please share. if some crazy shit happened to you earlier in the week, tell us the story. if you are coming to us because you saw how awesome we did of a job on your friends japanese sleeve, dont be surprised when we are bummed that you want us to do your celtic armband. haha come in clean and with a good attitude. thats all i can ask for. anything extra is frosting on the cake1 point -

There is no such thing as the best rose. Its not a competition, more of an appreciation, repulsion, or somewhere in between. My personal fave is Henry Goldfield, He rules the rose in SF His chest piece is a giant rose from Oakland's Shakey Jake done in the early 60's I believe. Many tattooers and their families wear Henry's roses. I don't have photos available right now , but I wear one and my wife has a 3/4 sleeve of 3 roses from Henry. When I got mine, he gave me the drawing which proudly hangs in the shop. Next to the rose it says" Dean, here's your rose. Follow the rose in life and you'll never go wrong. Good luck to you." Most of the roses I see today are very well done in a variety of styles. I like rose tattoos with a black outline made by people over 50. But hey, whatever you're into, there's room for it all.1 point
