Anxioussoup
Hi Friends! I'm new here. In November I'll be starting a full back piece. My artist is Travis Hulshizer at The Green Gazelle in Kansas City. We wrapped up my sleeve a couple years ago and finally am ready to start my next project. It'll be a full back piece centered around a turkey vulture with feminine imagery to balance it. I'm also a VERY anxious person and am already nervous about the pain. I was able to sit for 5-6 hour sessions for my sleeve but I hear the back is pretty rough. Also, for ladies, and tips on the best way to dress for comfort and easy access to my full back? Thanks! westernhaiku, oboogie, Dan and 2 others 5 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/9250-new-here-and-starting-major-project/ Share on other sites
Queen Rocks
Welcome! Your sleeve looks sick! For your back piece, maybe wear a halter top or tank top so you can easily pull down the side that's being worked on? Only an idea. I have no experience because A) I don't have a large back piece (yet) and B) I'm a dude. scottyg and Anxioussoup 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/9250-new-here-and-starting-major-project/#findComment-148302 Share on other sites
scottyg
Yes, the back is rough, but you power through it because you're tough and powerful. also, don't be afraid of breaks and communicating with your artist. I get completely naked, but I'm a dude so it's different. There's a thread here called "full back piece experience." Check it out for further ideas. Hogrider
All parts of the back are not equal. I almost fell asleep while my artist was working on my upper back. When he hit the love handles though, that smarts! Hollie
I haven’t got any back pieces done but I have my shoulder. Why not try wearing a bikini top? Then that way there’s only two strings to contend with and they can be untied when he gets to the center. Your front would still be covered (you’d be lying on your stomach most likely, or maybe sitting in a chair leaning on the back?). Your sleeve is amazing, I love it. Anxioussoup
Thanks for the love and tips everyone! I'm definitely anxious for the pain aspect but I'm sure I can do it 😳 I'll be most excited when it's finished. I'm not one who enjoys the process! oboogie
Nice work. My artist used to tattoo with Travis, and I have friends who have been tattooed by him.
