Newbie Getting first tattoo

Hey, 19 year old guy here soon 20, I'v been thinking of getting my first tattoo. As my first tattoo I was looking to get a small one, maybe just above the ankle. I found a celtic knot, the mother-child celtic knot, represents the unbreakable bond and unconditional love between a mother and her child. It interests me mostly because its meaning quite hits me to be honest.. Now the only problem is I'm confused as some places call it the mother-daughter knot, some call it the mother-child knot.. what is it exactly? And second.. Is it meant for people like me ( my age) or for mothers?
