i haven't been to Moaz yet, though i've heard nothing but good things from the blog-o-sphere about them. personally, my favorite falafel comes from Sunrise Deli on Bancroft across from campus. if you get the combo falafel, you get potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant in it. bonus, you can add avocado. best falafel ever.

Do they have another place in the Sunset District in SF? If so, amazing falafel's! I used to like to use falafel mix for making veggie burgers.

they do! and in the financial district supposedly? i haven't been to that one. i've never used the falafel mix at home, mainly because i'm lazy and only like falafels when i'm in the mood, but some day i too will have to try that.

I had no idea there were so many, good to know.

Falafel mix is super easy or at least the ones I have always used. just add water and et sit for about twenty minutes then start making whatever shapes you want and drop in hot oil, blammo!

i wonder what would happen if you incorporated zucchini in with the falafel mix....

Just tried RistoBar on Chestnut. I know, it's in the Marina but worth it. One of the owners also owns Emporio Rulli in Larkspur, a landmark bakery there. The burrata salad there made the top 3 ever. Now that's a BIG deal as I (and Lochlan) have a huge obsession w/burrata. The pizza I got had ricotta, sausage, arugula and speck on it- delish! Gnocchi was super fresh with chunks of fresh mozzarella in it...genius! The restaurant itself was reallocate. Murals on the ceiling make younfeel like you're in Italy. Tables on the sidewalk make for great people watching too.

Great idea Tammy and have enjoyed reading everyones post.

As Tammy and Barbara know I love eating especially good tasty food!! Barbara, I look forward to your new weekly post....mmmm!

I'd agree with Barbara that one of my more favorite meals was at Adhoc, a must eat at if you love food and are in Napa!! I can still taste that meal when I think about it.

Morimoto's new spot in Napa looks good especially the Toro Tartar.......mmmmmmm

I am always in search of the best burger and/or steak but mostly burger. It is a meal so many attempt but few can actually execute it like fuck yes I will take another one of those even though I'm not hungry!! With that being said this is the list of burger that come to mind right now:

-"Any" burger in New Mexico with fresh green chiles oozing out of it. If I remember correctly the chain is called Blake's that is on every few blocks and they do it right especially for a chain.

-Burger Bar in the Macy's in San Francisco

-The Four seasons in San Francisco. Barbara, what's the name of this spot?

-Mine! The Sam-Vong sisters may enjoy playing foreman as I try to make them but bottom line I love my burgers that are way too big for the bun and look like a steak full of various flavors depending on my mood. hmmmmmm, I think I just realized what I'm making for dinner tonight!

Keep the food conversation coming..............

It's the 4 Seasons Burger Lounge which is the same as they're bar and lounge. The burger lounge is only on sundaes and and Mondays from 6-10 and you get the deal below. If you go any other time, the duck fat burger and the Classic burger are on the bar menu. The Duck Fat Burger totally deserves it's proper noun status. So fuckin BOMB! The BLT burger has pork belly on it. Amazingly genius.

Chef Richardson has created five new burgers to enjoy: the Classic Burger, the Duck Fat Burger, the Ahi Tuna Steak Burger, the "BLT" Burger, and the Steakhouse Burger. Each of these are specially paired with a beer, wine or cocktail.

USD 20.00 per person, excluding applicable taxes and gratuity.

I'm currently having a love affair with Gather in Berkeley.

http://www.gatherrestaurant.com/

Hey Dari- that's the sister restaurant of the catering company I work for. Same owners. The food is SO GOOD! MMMMM. Bringing leftovers home from work rules. For the carnivores out there the charcuterie is really good from there.

For all you vegan folk Saturn Cafe opened right across the street from Gather too and is good easy vegan/vegetarian diner food near UC Berkeley.

Last month, I finally got a chance to go to Morimoto located on the new Napa riverfront. I have always been a big fan of Morimoto so I was super excited to finally get to try his food. We started out with the famous toro tartare. If you are a big fan of toro, then you will definitely appreciate this. It is super fresh toro chopped tartare style and served with his homemade DELISH guacamole, creme fraiche, fresh ground wasabi, rice crackers and nori paste. Amazing! Next we got the oyster foie GRAS and the beef carpaccio. The former was so rich and delicious- a baked oyster w/seared foie gras on it and topped with sea urchin. The beef carpaccio was one of the best I've ever had. For entrees, we shared the duck duck goose which was duck 3 ways. It was ok. Duck confit was YUM, frozen foie GRAS was good but duck fried rice was a little dry. We got a spicy tuna roll and a spider roll on the side. The sushi was perfect. Every ingredient was the highest quality and made to perfection. Besides the food being so so so good, service was impeccable. Definitely a younger, super nice and polite staff. We sat outside under the heating lamps with a view of the river. I highly recommend trying this place out for a special occasion. I heard the Beckhams were there a copy,e weeks ago with their kids. Not sure how David got outta there with his shirt still in tact. I'm just saying...

The toro tartare was as amazing as it looked on tv! Then homie makes this amazing guacamole to go with it, wha-wha-what!!! We or rather I also got my sushi favorite, tobiko udama. As mentioned the service was amazing and Babs you forgot to mention it was during your SF Giants Playoffs and you were checking the score every few minutes and cheering aloud to yourself and the staff kept coming to you for the score. Bottomline.....get up there as it is an easy quick drive from the SF Bay Area.

Also try Adhoc up that way!!! Nick and Chad didn't you all goto French Laundry when you were out this way for the convention??????

Oh and I must'n forget the lil seventies style skatepark in Napa that reminds me of Santa Cruz's Derby Skate, some classic skate spots are so ridiculously awesome!

Got to try some restaurants when I was at Atlantis. First one was Nobu, which they have all over the world including Vegas, LA, NY, and Dubai. It was pretty delish but VERY expensive. Toro Tartare was not as good as the one at Morimoto's. They are known for their rock fish tempura which is served w/a spicy cream sauce. So delish. I'm must admit, everything else was probably really tasty since we had gone thru several bottles of sake. The best part was a server standing over my shoulder as a rolled a joint, watching intently. He was very impressed.

Couple nights later went to Bobby Flay's Mesa. As much as I LOVE Bobby Flay, the food was ok and totally overpriced. Next time I'm at Caesar's (where he has another Mesa), I will definitely go to the Bradley Ogden instead. For our last dinner, we went to Dune which is a restaurant by world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. I may already be partial to him cuz he has a restaurant called Chez Vong in Paris. Anyway, this was the best meal of the trip. The restaurant is at the One and Only Beach Club which is the hotel you see when Bond pulls up in the circular driveway in Casino Royale. We started with crab fritters which were served with a spicy hoisin sauce. For my entree I got the roasted Peking duck which was so moist, tender and delicious. It was served with a stir fry of asparagus, shiitake mushrooms and lotus flowers. I had the Casino Royale Martini with the meal of course. Service was amazing, the view was the ocean with a full moon and the food delectable. Highly recommend the Atlantis if you're thinking of going to the Bahamas!

Philadelphia:

Morimoto- It used to be better. That's a weird way to start a recommendation for a restaurant. When he actually worked there the quality just seemed better. Like there was more at stake. But it's still really good.

Chifa- I've only been there once. Owned by Chef Jose Garcia. We went during "duck week" for a prefix $55 dinner. Smaller portions led to excessive portions, all highlighting duck. Ended with a foie gras icecream with bits of crispy duck skin!

PYT- Some of the best burgers in Philadelphia.

Fogo de Chao- It's a chain, but well worth a visit for the carnivores.

Garcia's Trading Company- Another Jose Garcia property. The warm vichyssoise soup with bacon, truffles and scallops is my favorite.

Philly is a weird food city- we're a "big fish in a small pond" town with Garcia and Stephen Starr competing to own every nicer restaurant in town. It sort of takes the fun out of it.

But we have amazing foodie markets/stores to make up for it:

Di'Angelo Brothers: Butcher shop. You can get exotic meat hand butchered. Sonny has worked there all of his life and can usually handcut a piece of meat within an ounce just by sight. He also does homecured wild boar proscuitto and housemade pate that are to die for.

Di Brunos: Best cheesemongers in the city. Zeke, Ian and the boys can guide you to cheese and charcuterie that will pair with anything. It's a "by foodies for foodies" cheese/meat shop. They often shop out to local restaurants for specialty items- I picked up porcetta di testa there that was made locally.

It's not so much a love for Iron Chefs as it is that their properties seem to last in Philly. There are a lot of great startups that usually open and close before they can get a following. :(

Oh yeah. I have a passion for foie too- It was on sale for $19/lb a few months ago, so my freezer is stocked! And one of my friends (to bring this back around to Iron Chef) works for Morimoto; she texted me the other night cause he came in to the NYC restaurant and showed them how to make foie gras butter. My heart stopped, both calorically and foodgeekery.

so whats the secret to foie gras butter? i am a huge morimoto fan! haven't tried any of jose garces stuff but have cooked some of his recipes...

gosh a freezer full of foie gras would be so dangerous here although my parents just returned from paris with foie gras pate and truffle sauce....

Morimoto is the coolest! He oozes creativity. I always thought it'd be hilarious to get a japanese tattoo with morimoto as a samurai cutting up a dragon into sushi rolls.
is this secretly chris brown? doesn't he have a tattoo of ninjas in clouds with swords protecting jesus? sounds very similiar....
