Grant
Hello -- this is probably the wrong place for this, but anyway here goes. I'm wondering if you know of anyone who tattoos in Edinburgh and does the traditional style, I've already got my first tattoo and now i'm looking to get a Panther tattooed across the front of my thigh, anyone know a good tattoo artist in Edinburgh? Regards, Grant.

Shaun1105
That was where I got my last tattoo I got a tattoo there last May while on vacation. Recommended by a local tattooer who had guested there. I found that trying to google search for an artist in Scotland was fairly difficult due to the dual meaning of "tattoo"! Gregor
You are spoilt for choice in Edinburgh , Old town tattoo (nik especially ) or red hot & blue Paul slider is awesome (the shop Sara carter started in I believe) anyone in either of those shop will sort you out. If your looking for some real old school tattooage you can go see bill hooper I leith walk. He's been there about 100 years. Steven Kelly or soap at lab monkey do beautiful tattoos. Shaun1105
Now I'm intrigued, but Google is only pointing me in legitimate directions! Please advise. Maybe Google has gotten smarter in the past year, but I got a lot more stuff like this: Edinburgh Tattoo than useful artist stuff when I was doing my own research in late 2012. Gregor
Assume you mean tattoo in the military sense rather than the inky sense ? Welcome to the Official Website for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo - - - Updated - - - I love leith if you are coming to Edinburgh stay in leith it's better than Edinburgh. I fully intend to visit bill hooper at some point cos he is part of Scotland's tattoo history .
motsimus
Hey @Grant if your looking for a traditional style tattoo then check this shop out https://www.facebook.com/DenofIniquityTattooandPiercingParlour heaps of awesome guest artists and @hogg I think shaun is referring to the Royal military tattoo which is some form of parade/dance the army perform at the castle each year. hogg
@Shaun1105 and @motsimus: that is truly bizarre. I never would have guessed it could be used that way. According to wiki, it comes from the Dutch "tap toe": Drummers from the garrison were sent out into the towns at 21:30 hrs (9:30PM) each evening to inform the soldiers that it was time to return to barracks. The process was known as doe den tap toe (Dutch for "turn off the tap"), an instruction to innkeepers to stop serving beer and send the soldiers home for the night. The drummers continued to play until the curfew at 22:00 hrs (10:00PM). Tattoo, earlier tap-too and taptoo, are alterations of the Dutch words tap toe which have the same meaning. OK, threadjack over. Go get tattooed by Soap and post it here. Shaun1105, Gregor, JimmyS and 1 other
ClintonStitch
I'd mirror what a few others have said and get yourself to Red, Hot and Blue. Paul Slifer is a great artist and also a really sound guy as well, usually does most of his stuff freehand but always with great results. Haven't been tattooed by Alec by really like some of the work he's been doing recently. The Edinburgh Convention is also coming up in March which would be worth checking out if your based in Edinburgh.
