lupoavanti
First time thread poster: Any good Virgin of Guadalupe tattoos out there? I feel like it is hard to find a good one to study from. Traditional prefered but it would be nice to see any good ones. I find this to be one of the more challenging designs in tattooing, (especially trad). Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe (Spanish: Virgen de Guadalupe) is a celebrated Roman Catholic icon of the Virgin Mary, an image on a tilma, or peasant cloak, attributed in some accounts to Marcos Cipac de Aquino, an Indian painter. Traditional accounts tell that the peasant Juan Diego saw at the Hill of Tepeyac, near Mexico City, a vision of a girl of fifteen or sixteen years of age, surrounded by light. It was the early morning of December 9, 1531 (celebrated as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in the Spanish Empire).[1] Speaking to him in Nahuatl, his language, the girl asked that a church be built at that site in her honor; from her words, Juan Diego recognized the girl as the Virgin Mary. Diego told his story to the Spanish Archbishop of Mexico City, Fray Juan de Zumárraga, who instructed him to return to Tepeyac Hill, and ask the "lady" for a miraculous sign to prove her identity. The first sign was the Virgin's healing Juan's uncle. The Virgin told Juan Diego to gather flowers from the top of Tepeyac Hill. Although December was very late in the growing season for flowers to bloom, Juan Diego found Castilian roses, not native to Mexico, on the normally barren hilltop. The Virgin arranged these in his peasant tilma cloak. When Juan Diego opened his cloak before Bishop Zumárraga on December 12, the flowers fell to the floor, and in their place on the fabric was the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, miraculously imprinted there.[2] Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/4183-virgen-de-guadalupe/ Share on other sites
irezumi
You might as have asked if there are any good rose tattoos out there. It blows my mind that a tattooer just said that. This should be a no-brainer; there are about a million amazing tattoos on this theme and you shouldn't need to ask this question. Nothing personal and welcome to the forum. lupoavanti, CaptCanada and slayer9019 3 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/4183-virgen-de-guadalupe/#findComment-74138 Share on other sites

lupoavanti
Dear Irezumi- You are right. Your original comment was the perfect example as to why I don’t participate in art forums because most people are clueless as to what goes into making a successful piece. It was a very simple question and I apologize for blowing your mind. The Virgin of Guadalupe is packed with symbolism that is pertinent to its structure and becasue of that I rarely see any great examples. I have personally drawn this image dozens of times over the past year and am yet to be pleased with any of them. I assumed tattoo fans would be more open to sharing their favoirte designs in hopes of aquiring some new view points that would help me with my interests in the subject. If you don’t know what I am talking about then you should probably not post anything. -John Edited September 19, 2013 by lupoavanti too angry at the time Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/4183-virgen-de-guadalupe/#findComment-74951 Share on other sites

lupoavanti
Tony Nilsson, Blue Arms Tattoo, Oslo I think the craftsmanship on this piece is remarkable. irezumi
I didn't know that he owned it or that it's right at his shop to see it. When I eventually make it to visit the west coast that is a must-do stop. I can't understand how people don't notice or appreciate that painting; what a shame. Cork
Next post from Grime is going to be "Stupid posers now everyone's asking me about the Ed Hardy piece pretending like they care."
