Saw your post on the FLA rapper who was sentenced to two years. It’s not the first time someone has been prosecuted for the art they made. Check out the case of Mike Diana which happened in the early 90′s. Mike drew these comics that were super unrealistic and looked like kids doodles. they had people eating each other, guys with spiked dicks fucking chicks, kids getting ground up into meat. the kind of stuff a prepubscent kid would think up. They arrested Mike on Obscenity charges, and he nearly went to jail, was prohibited from being around any child younger than a certain age (i think 13) without supervision and this included members of his own family, he was prohibited from drawing!. Bunch of other shit happened too.

if you have the time, check the link below. I did an interview with Mike in 94. he’s a good guy, but he really got fucked too. he can’t go back to his home state cause he’ll be arrested.

Out of funds, Diana was unable to pay, and the doctor refused to give her evaluation to the court, effectively making him in violation of his probation."

That's ridiculous! I mean, some of the drawings were kind of gross but it's not the worst thing I've seen/heard. Obscienity is everywhere, it's just a fact of life. It's not like he was passing this stuff out at a preschool. And that doctor is a scam artist.

The main thing I hate about being an artist, is the fucking art scene. Seriously seeing things like this makes me so angry I can't express it. How can this guy get sent to jail and someone like R.Crumb isn't?

On the same note y'all should watch the movies "Who The Fuck Is Jackson Pollack" and "My Kid Could Draw That", that is if you want to spend the rest of the day full of hate for art snobs like the people who put this guy down.

Yeah this is bollocks, drawings are just drawings.

The thing I can't stand is photographers that take photos of naked kids (or kids in sexual poses) and call it art. That's not art no matter how artistically presented the photos are, its freaking child porn.

@Amok - Completely agree. It's almost 'worse' when it's a fashion shoot with blurred boundaries of sexual exploitation ("oh it's ok she has clothes on" clothes or not, no young girl should be posing like that IMO) and when the designers and/or photographers are called out on it their excuse its automatically "no its not kiddie pr0n, its art"

And incase anyone not in Australia is wondering what we are talking about in Amoks' post above

His BOILED ANGEL #8 comic is only legally obscene in it's printed format, btw- if he unstaples it and shuffles the pages, it ceases being obscene. Crazy.

So the 'zine itself (I think it's #7 and #8) was classified as legally obscene as an entire work. if the pages are removed, they're not individually obscene. I'm not sure if it's Florida only or nationwide.

this '' is'' the reason parental advisories are on records/albums and I had conversations with jello about it. Jello did not win. we are all subject to scrutinization. where do we draw the line? I have seen true perverts scrutinized by the american legal system, they did deserve it. but, I have always stayed away from what I thought might be seen as subversive, because of fear.I have held back.
