slayer9019
I'd go for the rib, you already have what I like to call a, "Fuck you, in your face!!!" tattoo. For clarification, I define a Fuck you, in your face!!! tattoo as any tattoo that is visible while wearing shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt. Anyone that sports this gets my respect, I fucking love it, nonconformist!!! I kinda disagree with you on this one. I think the only tattoos that push the limit would be hand/neck and especially face tattoos. Secondly most of everyone I know that got a "nonconformist" tattoo did not get them for respect or to show off but more for the art. I look at tattoos are wearable art. I've been broke, lost most of my possessions but a tattoo will stay with you forever (for better or worse). Funny thing my tattoos will almost never been seen as I prefer to keep them to myself. Ursula
To some people any visible tattoo is very 'out there' or 'crazy' or 'non conformist'. In my experience it seems people are getting a lot more used to arm tattoos, even forearms. I find it's when I wear shorts or a dress that people get kind of weird and stare a lot. I don't know if it's because people aren't used to the heavily tattooed leg or if it's because when I wear a t shirt and shorts it makes me look a lot more tattooed with both arms and lega showing. Or it could be because some of my leg tattoos could be considered offensive. Hands neck and face deff attract a lot of attention like previously stated. Ursula
I guess it all depends on who you're talking to. For me the only tattooing that 'pushes the limit' is heavy facial/head tattooing and second layer tattooing. I also feel like crazy piercings push it too. Like the guy with the ridiculous nostrils (search rooorah crumbs on google) or the dude @dcostello posted in the random photo thread with the insane check piercings. As for tattoos I guess it is what you are exposed to regularly. My friends got a lot of tattoos (mostly filled) up to the wrists and neck, some hand tattoos. The piecing (more stretching) can get a bit outta control in my opinion. But then again I guess it comes down to the argument of "modification vs mutilation", as it is all to the perception of the recipient/observer to which classification the body modification is placed into. Ask my grandmother and a quarter sized tattoo is mutilation, ask lucky diamond rich and ...... David Flores
My goal is not to be viewed as a member of the circus on a regular basis. On a related note to the topic got a couple of appointments with Mario Desa after he gets back from London on Sept 22 in Chicago. Luckily it dawned on me that my wife's birthday is that week and to make two appointments instead of one. kylegrey and gougetheeyes 2 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/12-latest-tattoo-lowdown/?page=6#findComment-17278 Share on other sites

cfgsteak
My arm is done for now. Its not really a half sleeve or a 3/4 sleeve...more of a 5/8th or maybe an 11/16th sleeve. I'm considering switching to the metric system to describe it... The elbow was actually easy compared to the armpit. I'll post a pic when it doesn't look like I ran my elbow through a belt sander. Got measured for the tiger on my side too. Oh my...oct 13th I get to see if ribs suck as bad as everyone says. ShawnPorter
I've been getting tattooed more in 2011 than I did in the previous few years and after the Robert Ryan/Deno weekend, followed closely by the Thomas Hooper finger jawn... I had said no more tattoos in 2011. Take a breather. Slow my roll. So yeah. Appointment booked with Scott Harrison on 12th September. Texkota
I got this little Purple Monkey done yesterday. I know its on the cheesy side, but I got it for my daughter. I've called her Punky Monkey since she was born and her favorite color is purple, I let her pick out the design (she's four by the way) and location. It is also on my left arm which I plan on using for totally random stuff. Damn camera phone sucks ass, bad quality photo. Avery Taylor
Shawn is getting tattooed by him in Brooklyn, but I am pretty sure that he is tattooing in Portland still, just not in a shop. I am going to Portland in a week, and was going to try and get tattooed by him, but I don't think that I will have the time. David Flores
I had heard that he was still tattooing, I think on this forum. I don't really know him personally but I am sure I can find someone who does. I was just talking the other day about all the people I have taken not gotten tattooed by here in Portland. Ursula
I don't know if it has info about his tattooing but he has a website called Headband Brothers, it'll come up in a google search. He does sell his amazing paintings thought the site which to me is as valuable a buy as getting tattooed by him! AlannaCA
i finally get to add to this thread!! i've been waiting six months for this tattoo and for me it was well worth the wait! the long wait was not because the artist was booked up, but because i set a goal and the tattoo was my reward. i get it filled in October 21, just before my birthday. I don't really know him personally but I am sure I can find someone who does. I was just talking the other day about all the people I have taken not gotten tattooed by here in Portland. Scott's a damn nice guy; we had a chat about a fairly obscure subject back in 99 or 2000, and when I emailed him about the appointment he told me that my name sounded familiar, so he googled me; then, realizing he knew me, referenced the conversation from 11 years ago. Good people. I'll ask him if he's working anywhere in Portland. hogg, AlannaCA and David Flores 3 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/12-latest-tattoo-lowdown/?page=6#findComment-17689 Share on other sites

remindsmeofyou
I was lucky enough to score a last minute cancellation with Valerie Vargas at Frith Street Tattoo on Monday. The design is a 1920s flapper girl that Valerie drew up on the spot for me. Valerie is a genius! I am so unbelievably thrilled with how it came out. RoryQ
Just writing this from the ryokan Im staying in while in Japan. A bit of a movable feast of tattooing-related holiday stuff over the past week.... Also laying the ground for some work next year. My girlfriend has been accepted by Shige as a client and will start her backpiece next year - amazing stuff, and I was slightly star-struck when Shige walked in the door of Yellow Blaze for her appointment. As she is planning a return visit to begin around this time next year, and because I know the dates we will be back over the next while (roughly), Im planning my own work around that. I am going to try and work in a few small pieces while when we are over next, and to that end I called into Harizanmai Tattoo in Kyoto today and spoke briefly with Gakkin about a piece next year. Also took in Horyioshi III museum in Yokohama and met his son and successor smoking nonchalantly at reception. Awesome trip so far! Duffa
I wasn't going to post these until it was completed, but I thought "fuck it, why not" and now you guys can see how the cover up progresses  These are the best photos I could get after the first day in Kyoto (6hrs) I still have to get photos of the second day, which completed all the background on the upper arm. Everything is now nearly healed so I'll get some new ones soonish. Apologies for the dodgy photography but I'm pretty sure I was still vibrating haha gougetheeyes, AlannaCA, MsRad and 7 others 10 Quote Link to comment https://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/t/12-latest-tattoo-lowdown/?page=6#findComment-17832 Share on other sites
