Black Velvet lover here, Canadian whiskey is great. I think you can get a Black Velvet (normal size) for about 18 bucks, it beats Jack and Lower shelf liquors easy, great smooth taste.

Laphroaig is the whisky I drink the most, although I'm partial to any single malt from the Islay region. I just prefer the smokier/peatier taste and texture that you get with them. Having said that one of the best whiskys I've ever tasted was on a trip to a distillery called the Bladnoch Distillery. I think they were one of the smaller distilleries that produced stuff to go into the blended Bell's whisky, but we bought a couple of their single casks. I want to go back there just to get some more, it was the smoothest and possibly most complex whisky I've ever tasted.

This is rather bizarre, but I was rooting through an old drawer in my parents' house and I found a bottle of 1982 Crown Royal Whiskey that my Dad obviously bought on a trip to Canada and put away. He was a tee-totaller and it's never been opened (the seal is still dated).

I'm not even sure what it would taste like now...

A friend bought me a bottle of Yamakazi, really different. Pretty sweet and almost floral. Though it's hard to pay attention when I keep saying in between sips, "For a relaxing time.."

Yeah scotch is big over here, I do belive that yamazaki is the oldest distiller (don't quote me though). The guy that started it lived in scotland for a while gatherning information to come back to Japan and start a whisky with a scotch influince.

wow... nice thread !! I like highland and speysides, not a fan of islay whiskey tho its too much like drinking oily cough syrup for me lol (although i do like Tallisker but thats from a different island...) my favourite whiskeys are Macallan, Glengoyne and Auchentoshan pretty light sweet and smooth stuff. I also dig some blended whiskey especially William Lawson.

Is it like a proper sherry barrel , or whatever ? i thought part of the whiskey aging process was to do with it taking on the flavours of the cask ?

Age Your Own

Doesn't really say what kind of barrel it is, just that it's an aging barrel. I should probably just do it and see what happens but part of me just wants to return it to Costco and buy a $100 worth of good whiskey.

I say do it, I'm pretty interested in the end result. Also, looks like they have their own whiskey that they're aging in "handmade, small American oak barrels." So I'm guessing that's what you got. They're based in WA, kind of interested to try this stuff. Here's their ABOUT PAGE.

Drank a fair bit of bourbon over the weekend (yes, it's not whiskey or even tenessee whiskey, but it's close enough for government work). Eagle Rare mainly... Made Old Fashioneds using flavoured bitters I haven't come across before - a premium brand doing them in orange, chocolate, peach etc.

Going to get to work on that Crown Royal next week (it's at my parents' house right now).

I'm sorry but this is going to be a little bit off topic, don't mean to disturb everyones whiskey consumption. Was on YouTube watching "for a relaxing time" and this Tommy Lee Jones commercial for boss coffee popped up.... best one I've seen, I miss all of them cause I don't watch TV.

Best part of my trip to Japan was all the Boss Coffee adds with Tommy J looking... well super boss. What a great country.
