The last of my Christmas beers... Delirium Christmas from Delirium Tremens.

Any beer with a pink elephant on the bottle is already telling you you're screwed. This one is 10% alcohol. In theory I drank a half bottle of wine which had more alcohol the other night, but somehow beer always hits closer to home.

To be honest this is the worst 'Christmas' style ale I've had this year. Preferred Anchor's Special Ale, Goose Island's offering... And probably number 1. for me was Brewdogg's 'There is no Santa'.

The Anchor Special Ale was good this year. I always like the Goose Island stuff, (one of my best friends works there), my other two favorites were Anderson Valley

s Winter Solstice and 21st Amendment Fireside Chat. Subtle spice notes really gave these beer a nice winter feel and they were both fairly strong to get you in the christmas spirit.

The Meantime Brewery in London has made their navy hospital porter available in Marks 'N Spencers for 15 euro a bottle (750ml, 6% alcohol).

The porter is based on the old porter recipe served to retired sailors from the old naval brewery at the royal naval hospital in London (or so I understand). It's aged for a number of months in Islay whisky casks, which gives it a mad iodine and salty peat nose.

So that's my Friday evening drink sorted then. It's pretty awesome.

Just got a box in the mail this morning from the Wesvleteran brewery. It's an abbey that makes trappist beer and is one of the more unusual ones in that you still have to more or less go there in person to get hold of the beer.

From time to time they break their rules on this, when money is tight. I bought a pack of bottled beers and two of their special glasses as part of an online sale to build a new wing the abbey needs.

I've never had it before, but Westvleteren is intriguing because various beer websites and tasters consistently place it amongst their favourite beers. On the one hand I wonder if this isn't directly linked to the unavailability of this beer in the general course of things, but I should know in about an hour, when I open a bottle.

The tasting notes mention 'blue cheese'. Hmm.

You'd probably need to stop driving and give up work to do it properly.

I think you've have a problem distinguishing yourself from an actual alcoholic after a few days of drinking at breakfast time. Although I guess you'd be nice and thin.

Brooklyn Lager beer porn?!? Say it ain't so... having that stuff pushed on me for six years while living a few blocks from the brewery, never got over the taste. IMO the chocolate stout and the "brewmaster's choice" were the only things worth drinking.

On a side note, Rodenbach's Grand Cru, as of late, is my downfall...

Brooklyn Lager is not on the list. Having said that Brooklyn lager has only good memories for me.

First time I drank that was on my first visit to the Big Apple at The Grand Central Oyster Bar.

I see Pabst tallboys are having a moment with the hipsters over here - they're all drinking them in various pop-up restaurants in Dublin right now. I know Pabst are considered old-school but not a 'craft' brewer ... What's it taste like?

If you have ever given a rimjob to a 350 pound ex-con after a post protein powder infused workout then gargled with an ashtray you will know what PBR tastes like.

An Irish craft brewery called 8 Degrees just put this picture up on their facebook page, part of a mini-promotional they're doing for an Irish craft brewing festival.

43 minutes up and so far they've got about ten negative comments - women coming out of the woodwork calling them out on sexist marketing, saying it's boring and predictable etc. I have a degree of sympathy with where the women are coming from if I think about it objectively, but the brewery is run by two male australian immigrants - I'm not sure they'll get much satisfaction from them!

At the least the models are drinking full pints and not halves....

Clearly they are the first company who has tried to use sex appeal to sell their product.
