Grez Interview from 2010, pt. 1

All right LSTers, here's an older interview I did with the very talented Grez from King's Avenue from last year. The magazine in which it appeared only published a very abbreviated version and, after talking with Lochlan and getting permission from Grez to post it, I thought this would be a good place to share the full version. Since it is somewhat dated and a portion of it already appeared, most magazines wouldn't be interested. And since I've shelved the book project for now, was just lookin

So much has happened, so much to say

Last month was super busy. First we had Ink and Iron tattoo convention at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. I barely made it to the convention at all. I was going to go on Saturday but I'd heard it was hot and crowded. I guess as I am getting older and working more in the office side of things here at Dringenberg & Co., I feel less like hanging around not working at conventions. Besides with my new school and work schedule I have to try and make time to rest. Even though I have taken time off fr

Kore Flatmo Interview

Up until this point, everyone I have interviewed has been a friend or acquaintance. When I was getting ready to do the Tim Hendricks interview, I spoke with my friend Demian Cane. "Since you're coming down, you should do Flatmo, too." Now I have seen a lot of Kore Flatmo's work and I've always loved it, but I've never so much as even seen a picture of him, let alone had a heart to heart conversation. Demian took matters into his own hands and called him. One phone call later, I was sick to my st

Old school

I dig this site. I want to connect with old friends. I just responded to someones question about what their painting was worth.Im sure i was rude. If you went to art school, fab. I wasn't so priviliged. neither were alot of tattooers,Im a little freaked to see how hip it is to call yourself a "tattooer". I worked for GTC for 8yrs, he learned on his buddies and little brother. In the 70s they called themselves "tattooists" so people wouldnt think you were such a piece of shit, it insinuates artist

Design/Flash Painting: Gloss or No Gloss?

So I've been painting designs now for over 3 years using Watercolor, FW Liquid Acrylic and Pelikan Ink on Arches (green cover) paper. Is it common or standard practice to spray them with a gloss cover to make them last longer or preserve them better? Or is it a "thing" to just give them "That SHINE!" All my artist friends I've asked don't do this, but I was looking at another friends artwork and its glossy. When I asked him if he used the spray gloss, he just said, "It's one of my secrets an

What is it

Because I can't quite get started on work this morning and because it's always something I've thought about and because it's something I doubt anyone will ever truly be able to answer without some massive study, I've been thinking this morning about the why to tattoos. There's a tattoos and why thread, but I've always thought there must be something about the people getting tattooed or becoming tattooers. They're seemingly two different things but, barring some exception

Thomas Morgan and Shon Lindauer in Newcastle!

Hello there everyone :) So, I already have a personal blog and I'm way too lazy to start another one properly, but I do like this site so I guess a couple of posts here and there wouldn't go amiss. If you like tattoos (duh), photography, angry rants and pictures of dinosaurs, you can always click here to see my site, I guess. Booked in another tattoo today, though- very excited. Also, I am very grateful, since I had some money saved at the studio for a deposit and could therefore book in witho

New tattoos...

I'm trying to be more pro-active in getting my stuff out there on the interwebs. So here's some new tattoos I've had the pleasure of doing in the last two days. I'm finding more and more people are leaning towards my simple, bold tattooing rather than my realistic stuff which is cool, but I'm still not sure which direction to head in. Either way, I'm trying to be fluent in both the traditional "bold will hold" world as well as the realism genre too. My four year tattoo anniversary is coming

seeing my father and my grandparents for the first time in a year.

it's a weird feeling. my grandmother just had heart valve replacement surgery, and luckily she is doing just fine, but i had to ask if my dad's girlfriend was going to be at my grandparent's house. it was a hard question to text (we hardly speak on the phone anymore). it's an awkward place to be. as a grown single child, i have been the sole witness to my parents, and i am now the point between two, very separated families. i feel torn in my own way, conflicted by my own personal thoughts

Tattoos and Televison

Last night was the premier of NY Ink. I am so happy for our friends on the show. Our friends have been on all the TLC shows, Miami, LA and now NY. I always hear so many tattooers say that by being on these shows, people are selling out. Really? Selling out? Wouldn't they if they had the chance to be on TV jump at the chance? I'm sure 8 out of 10, if not 10 out of 10 would if they could. I watched it. I had to see what the new shop looked like. I had to support my LA friends and give them a littl
